Watching this program last night was highly educational but in a lot of ways left me pining for the old days.

Yes, great to see Managers players & doctors physios etc embracing technology and striving for improvements but I just kept thinking of players like Sean O'Leary from Cork hurling or Joe McNally from Dublin football. All the data & apps there now would probably tell the coach to get rid of them off the panel, but that data doesn't make anyone a judge of hurling or football.

It seems that what we are gaining in technology, we are losing in knowledge & in many ways the games are the poorer for it.

It's interesting. What would the management greats like Heffo or Micko have made/make of it? Was all this technology around at the start of Brian Cody's time as Kilkenny hurling manager? Does his management team use it?

I just think if you are putting that much effort into analyzing data that there are still a few basics that will help?

Practice the main skills of the game to be able to execute them at speed
Be first to the ball
Always find a man with a pass

Derek McGrath & Tadhg De Burca were two lads who were interviewed in the program and certainly I always thought Waterford would be the type of team looking at this type of information. To their credit they are trying to get an edge on other teams but the amount of time going into this activity, could it be better spent on other activities?
