Armagh v Fermanagh

(Oldest Posts First)

It's an Ulster derby in Armagh this Sunday as the Kieran McGeeney's men look to atone for their loss to Down when they welcome Pete McGrath's Fermanagh side.

This thread will be used for discussion on the game at the Athletic Grounds.

A lot of people talk about armaghs FFL - that they are most potent in Ireland - don't see it at all - Jamie Clarke good against average players but when marked tight totally disappears - I see Fermanagh running this close and perhaps could pip Armagh.

Armagh had a very good 2014 and it looked liked they would kick on from that. Since then they have flopped when big performances were expected from them. I though they were poor against Armagh and would not predict this game with much confidence. Fermanagh are getting more out of the players under McGrath's management.

There are a lot of weird parallels between McGeeney and Davy Fitz. They seem to do better with other counties than their own. I was convinced Armagh would have a surge under him but it hasn't happened yet.

McGrath is such a shrewd operator but as far as I know Fermanagh are depleted this year from recent retirements and injuries.

It's a hard one to call. Fermanagh have the better recent qualifier history, were robbed in Castlebar last year.

While I can see the point you are making, I think you might being a bit harsh on Davy. He did win only Clare's fourth All Ireland while in charge. Admittedly the other years weren't great but he still did better with them than any other county really!

He never backed up that season with them though and things sort of fell into place for him that year. Like they beat Laois, a disinterested Galway who were fighting amongst themselves, Limerick and a poor Cork team to win it.

What he has done with Wexford is incredible.

Can't argue that he is doing a fantastic job with Wexford, but wasn't he banned from training for 8 weeks?!! He still did a hell of a lot better with his home county than McGeeney is so I was just saying it was harsh on Davy to compare them.
