London V New York

(Oldest Posts First)

Is there anything to be said for a London V NY qualifier every summer?
First round of Connacht, winner qualifies outright.
Would give both squads a tangible target and something to really focus on each Spring.
i am well aware of London's recent success but lets be honest, its like hens teeth in reality. This would present both with a REAL opportunity each summer to register a championship win.

Its a good idea but you have to wonder do the GAA actually want new York to win a championship game? Look at the headache it caused in ulster hurling a few years back when illegals couldn't travel.

The GAA seem happy with the promotional opportunity it offers and nothing more.

Given the number of quality players in London, there's no reason why they can't repeat their 2013 run in the coming years.

You also must remember that the annual game in London is a big fundraiser for them, it's unlikely that their county board would want to give it up for a tie against NY.

Likewise for the coffers in the Bronx...it's the biggest weekend of the year.

Let them play home and away same year. Aggregate score wins.

To be fair to Leitrim, they would probably fall into the same bracket. They were pretty lucky last week.

Both teams are happy enough with their games the way they are . North america has a vibrant championship and the New York match might even be an annoyance in terms of drawing players away from their respective north american clubs.

The North American Board and New York Board are two separate entitities and championships. Our league here in N.Y. doesn't start until April so the boys playing for senior team aren't missing any time with their clubs. If and when we do win our first champo match, the team is fully able to travel, not like the old days haha. Not sure what the real answer to including us in Connacht championship. London are in the League, so they get competitive marches throughout the season. We only get the 1 match.

London vs Leitrim this year was very competitive, with London hitting the post before Leitrim got their two quick goals. London will no doubt be looking to cause an upset against Carlow in the qualifiers.
