More Challenge Matches and Go Public

(Oldest Posts First)

I was thinking whether to post this or not. I think there should be more challenge matches and they all go public. I say people will be sitting through the summer months thinking to them selves what should I do now. Then in my situation I'm in from a hard days of work. I see Derry are facing Kildare or Donegal or anybody down at the club, it would be a more of a social event and people will see how there team is doing, players would probably enjoy 2-3 challenge matches a week than constant training. It would bring big enough numbers to games and players would build more confidence when they play more and also in front of a good crowd. If this wish was to ever come through all matches go public on GAA.IE and on all the teams social media accounts. Also matches have to be played at clubs not the county grounds and they could be double headers. It would be great if it did come true.

There's a reason games are behind closed doors , you don't want to give your hand away , fellas carrying injuries, playing a sweeper two sweepers, high ball into the box , coaches are under enough scrutiny with games that actuallly matter than getting involved in a phoney war , as I e said a million times if your suffering cold turkey get out and watch , under 21 , minors or club games

I mean its amateur sport ...whats the big secret ....lets watch some inter county footie ....its all well and good for a sub poster to say get out n watch u21 and minor when you are guaranteed run to the final in pretty much every level .....and yes we all watch club football but home intercounty matches are thin on the ground for most counties so lets watch them when we can

Why not instead of more friendlies change competitions to provide more games in the actual competitons. And in no way is it better or feasible to have several matches instead of training. What makes you think attendances would be very high?

Whats with all the spaces on your post?
Coaches shouldnt so afraid of "giving their hand away". Thats a losing mentality. And there isnt enough games "that matter" and too much training for too few matches.

We played them in Kiltoom back before the O'Byrne Cup and it was a tenner in as well - seems to be standard for challenge matches I would have thought?

When you say "players would probably enjoy 2-3 challenge matches a week than constant training" you surely can't be serious!

I don't think it is that entitled to be honest.

Right now our club doesn't have access to our county players because they are playing challenge matches. It'd maybe make it a little easier to swallow if these games were more open.

The main problem though is the gap between league and championship. The over preparation that goes on for championship and the effect it has on club football is a joke.

The inter county championships need a radical overhaul. Ibn how many sports do teams play a league run straight off and then have a break and over long cup competitions?
There is too much training for too few games.

ormondbannerman I agree, all quarter finals, etc in provinces should be played the same weekend, then a weekend for club matches, then the semi's.
Bloody well get on with both championships. Too much training too few games sums it up.

Now that I do agree with you on , however there are many on here that would screw the club and the club player 50 times over if it meant county honours
