Kerry v Mayo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see David Brady thinks Mayo should drop Aidan O Shea back to mark Donaghy on Sunday.

While it would be interesting to watch the two big lads battle it out, there is as much chance of this happening as a potential replay to be fixed for Limerick again.

Replying To Pericles:  "You could be right ATO, but the bookies don't share that perspective. A few posters in here are predicting that your lads will destroy us on Sunday, and the odd Kerry poster can't seem to help speculating about the Dubs in the final. Mayo focus is firmly on Kerry, we'll worry about Tyrone if your lads have the mother of all off days, Mo willing!"
I can assure you all the people I have talked to about the game are very wary of Mayo and the notion they are 'finished' is a myth

As Eamon Fitzmaurice said, the 7 games have allowed Mayo mix and match and find their best Football as so clearly shown the last day, whereas Kerry have had 3 mixed displays and the last game a very underwhelming display vs Galway which is worrying as you'd rather start the season that way before getting better and better as you enter Croke Park

Realistically, we need to do better than parity in the middle sector as we don't have the capability to dominate teams in the running game the way the 'Big 3' do

More chance that Peppa Pig will lift the Sam.

Kerry media, ex-players and fans will never tell you what they really think ;) I listened to Terrace Talk on Radio Kerry last night...they are confident but wouldn't admit it as much to their audience or even themselves....great praise for Mayo but then again they love playing us. Mayo need to bring controlled mayhem on Sunday if that makes any sense. It's time we got a win over Kerry again.

We have one all ireland in 8 years yewtree, no reason for us to be confident at the moment.

Anyone I have talked to in Kerry does not think for one minute we will easily beat Mayo, history from the last few years have shown Mayo, Kerry and Dublin matches have all been close on the majority of occasions so I see no reason for Sunday to be any different.

This week's Jim McGuinness article reflects the widely held national view that it is the game on Sunday week is the de facto Final and that this game doesn't matter. It's all about next week's game with a cursory mention of Mayo - what will he write about next week..............

An interesting game for sure. Just when you thought Mayo's race was run they go out and annihilate Roscommon. Was this a case of the sting of a dying wasp? Or can they raise themselves another level for the men from the Kingdom?

My own thoughts are that this Mayo team isn't finished but they simply have to come up with something new in terms of their defensive structure. If they can screen their full back line better and avoid conceding the kind of unnecessary goals they have in the past, then I think they have the running power to create goal chances at the other end. If they can be clinical with their goal opportunities and Cillian has a good day at the office from the frees then they won't be far away.

If Kerry posters came on here and said we will win by 10-15 points we would be be criticized for being over confident.
Most Kerry people I know, including myself expect a close game and get called out on that too. Yerrah this, yerrah that.
You can't win either way!!!

Read it again, it is totally even in it's coverage. Bookies have Kerry at 2/1 on and mayo at 5/2 today.

It's easy to understand what you're trying to stay. Such spin must make you dizzy. I stated a fact, 14 + 8. It'll be tough for us to guard against complacency knowing the mighty Kingdom have fallen on hard times having only won one Sam in 8 years. Maybe not as bad a trough for Kerry as when Maurice Fitzgerald was majestic when ye beat us and ended the famine.

Nor as good as the first Kerry team as I saw in Croke Park in '81 after we had broken our own Connacht famine. Ye had some good lads in that team!

Sooooo excited.....

Examiner piece is behind a registration wall, but given Quirke's allegiances, I'll take whatever comments he makes pre-match with a pinch of salt. I believe the Kerryman newspaper is tipping Mayo to win on Sunday? Much like P O Se did in 2004, as I remember...

Kerry pundits generally toe the county line pre-match, it's only after that you get a real insight into what they're thinking, a classic example being Spillane's team of the decade rant after Cork beat Tyrone in 2009.
