I remember there was a documentary on that Aran Island game but it was on tv3 or tg4 i think. Also had other parts about life on the island. Was very good. Might be available on web.

ok then lets compare rtes gaa to rugby coverague
last few years around 35 live gaa games compared to around 23 ish rugby, this years its around the same
next year 35 live gaa games compared to possibly nil rugby

rugby has against the head and (i think three documentaries) - gaa has league sunday plus sunday game plus thank gaa its friday plus toughest trade plus pairc life plus winning plus the geansai ) - - gaa wins on that one
gaa has championship draw, all stars , qualifier draws on radio ---- no such rugby equivalent shown

no rugby world cup no pro 12 no champions cup -cant even outbid tg4 for that --no six nations from next year on

lot more radio coverage 3/4 games per week during summer compared to rugby,
the champiosnhip radio show on fridays, the marty squad - no such rugby equivalent
the davy fitz documentary

but oh silly me rugby get a bit more coverage on that almightly bastion of sports coverage the six one news -let get out our stopwatches and time it ,

another day has gone by and apart from soma - not one single solitary suggestion to improve coverage . loads of moaning and whinging and oooohhh sob sob rte hate us blah blah blah , but not a single suggestion for improvement ...i suppose we will have more fella posting critising rugby while their team is playing over the weekend !!!!

when i say this year its around the same i mean in 2017 same amount of rugby matches on compared to gaa . due to womens world cup and for first tiem ever showing all womens and 20s game , be practicially nil next year , so im failing to see the "bias"

Well, clearly RTE haven't any ideas themselves as they're looking for ideas for a new GAA programme for the summer. Despite the fact they've been covering Gaelic Games for decades they haven't the expertise to come up with a successful preview/review show? Says it all, really.

That's one way of looking at it.

Maybe they've taken onboard from feedback from different sources including forums like this one. Posters voice cing dissatisfaction with Sunday Game, League Sunday etc and making suggestions. I think that getting some ideas from viewers can only be a good thing.

I just heard the "sports news" on Newstalk 106. GAA matches were in 4th place. Also we heard that "Tyrone will go toe to toe with Cavan" and that Dublin will "tackle" Mayo. Why do these people hate the GAA so much?

It seems to have become fashionable to love rugby and hate the GAA. Especially among our media commentators and Rugbai Telefis Eireann.
The YUPPIES have taken over the airwaves.

That's what's happening, RTE appear to be getting their act together for the inevitable down the road a bit, they want to make RTE sport more inclusive and appealing.
This "Super 8" thing is the thin end of the wedge so to speak, and that came in on the back of "two" Sky deals, 2018/19 will see more changes, however small, my gut feeling tells me that the elite end of ticket pricing will change, and because of the extra super games more pay for view games will be more of a norm.
The inevitable I see happening is RTE will merge with Sky, something like Aer Lingus and IAG, RTE is the only standalone national broadcaster that does not have broadband on offer, to merge with Sky would make some sense, they could hold on to their brand name as Aer Lingus did, for a given length of time.

We'll see how it goes. Hopefully some new ideas might make even better GAA coverage.

Definitely. Brian is well known as a Young Upwardly Mobile Professional in his 60s. Along with all those who play/played rugby and GAA.

Yuppies eh? I didn't realise it's 1983.

Or maybe if you enlightened them with your sports broadcasting expertise they might push the boat out.

With a customer like you they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. At least if you want to complain use the right to reply to voice your opinion because no poster here will change GAA programming format because you tell us here how unhappy you are about it.

As if Ryle Nugent is going to listen to me! This is an Internet forum. What do you expect?
