this has the test of all tests written all over it for Lee Keegan. He might be giving up about 8 inches on Donaghy but i just see him making it his life ambition to not give him a smell of it

The 3 wise men on the Sunday Game said there is a a big gap between the top 3 counties and the rest. Did they include Kerry or Mayo in the top 3? Mayo by 2 points. suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1662 - 09/08/2017 12:12:00 2031509 Link 0 |
Mayo lost to Galway, Kerry dismissed Galway easily. mayoboy1 (Mayo) - Posts: 1654 - 09/08/2017 12:51:58 2031538 Link 1 |
Hard to pick a winner. I always say and I'll keep saying it. Mayo are without question the most unpredictable formless team in Ireland. On a good day they could beat Dublin on a bad day they could almost lose to Wicklow. GameOfTyrones (Tyrone) - Posts: 469 - 09/08/2017 12:53:04 2031539 Link 0 |
My own take is this, poor Mayo have looked at times this summer they are now exactly where they have wanted to be all year, back in Croker and 70 minutes away from a 3 final in 5 years. So everything that has gone on up to this point is now irrelevant. TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 09/08/2017 13:40:33 2031561 Link 3 |
I suppose we have stumbled around like all season like a man that is on his 5th day at the Galway races....now a few shots of vodka red bull has injected more life into us...will it keep us going on the dancefloor until September or will we be head down into a curry chip in Supermacs? Time will tell. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 09/08/2017 15:50:40 2031649 Link 0 |
Ye might still be on the Dancefloor by the time September comes but the problem is the curry chips probably will have to be pre ordered given the quality of opposition in the final

I think Kerry will beat Mayo in their semi final.

True, and aren't Mayo the county that has retained it's Division 1 status for longer than anyone else in the Division? I think its the 1990's the last time Mayo were not part of the top division. So yes I'd agree Yew Tree no one can doubt that since 2011 Mayo have been consistently one of the very best teams in Ireland and considering you contesting two All-Ireland between 2004 and 2006, it's fair to say that for over 13 years ye have been a consistent force at the very top echelon of Gaelic football. Now I'm sure for the players and many of the supporters that mean's diddly squat when they is no AI medals in the back pocket but it does speak to the remarkable resilience and spirit of this present group. Kerry will not and can not take the challenge they face lightly. When you think about it, 2014 is our last Championship meeting and Mayo have acquired so much more experience since then and last year's final surely proved to them that they are good enough to beat anyone, even the much vaunted Dubs. In contrast Kerry have lost a good chunk of experience from that famous day (Aidan, Marc, Declan etc). Yes we have some very exciting younger players that weren't there (or were bit players) in 2014, but could experience be a decisive factor? You really can't tell how younger players will fare until they a trust into a cauldron like next Sunday. TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 10/08/2017 13:10:30 2031966 Link 0 |
Yes I believe Mayo got promoted to Division 1 in 1999 and have remained there ever since. As for experience I believe you need a mixture. One could never believe a Kerry team don't have enough of experience. We are of course basing our hope that Mayo will re-produce the intensity we saw against Roscommon on Sunday week...if we do I give us a strong chance. I think both Kerry and Mayo will be well up for it and it will be a close, physical and grossly entertaining game for neutrals....for myself I will probably be on the edge of my seat throughout. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 10/08/2017 14:29:51 2031996 Link 0 |
Looking forward to it but considering Mayo's form through the championship this game could be as bad as the quarter finals were, I think Kerry could steamroll them but they won't, they are too cute for that, they'll play it like a cat toying with a mouse, they won't want to show there hand before the final, Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2705 - 10/08/2017 15:32:42 2032021 Link 0 |
You are correct YewTree. However, if this current crop of players don't win an All Ireland, it will always be held against them despite their remarkable consistency and achievements. Rightly or wrongly, that's what'll happen. Dr.Watson (Kildare) - Posts: 208 - 10/08/2017 15:59:08 2032033 Link 0 |
And the replay in Limerick!!

I know that well. The whole county craves for that elusive All Ireland. If we don't get it I will look back on this era with massive regret but that's life. It was interesting to listen to Newstalk yesterday evening and how high regards that great Waterford team with Mullane, Dan the Man, etc were all held when discussing their great battles with Cork. There is a stark difference between how Hurling folk views teams and football. Mayo are viewed as bottlers, an object of mockery for many which I find unfortunate but accept that won;t change until we do win an All Ireland. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 10/08/2017 16:41:11 2032049 Link 0 |
Cheers Tirchonaill, your dismissive post might just be the last bit of hurt this Mayo side needs to get over the line against those invincible Kingdom cats. You'll see mighty mice roar on Sunday week!

I have a massive grá for this Mayo side . TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 10/08/2017 17:24:46 2032076 Link 0 |
Im not sure how you can think Kerry wont taking Mayo very seriously. This Mayo team have made the last 7 semi finals and im sure what evidence anyone has that they are far behind the top 3 as you say. Should be a cracking game, full of intensity and hard hits. One thing for sure it wont lack in terms of entertainment and plenty talking points.. KY4SAM2015 (Kerry) - Posts: 898 - 10/08/2017 18:31:32 2032098 Link 0 |
