All-Ireland minor football championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Anyway I look forward to a good minor championship, I would say both Louth and Kildare could be the teams to beat. Laois might just make final if either others slip. Interesting games ahead. Btw I speak of Leinster only.

McConnon is not the manager, it's Ken Hickey from Bagenalstown who was a selector on the team that got to the Leinster final ten years ago.

McConnon was manager of the Carlow u/21s this year and last and I'm afraid whilst he has a good record with club sides he has never down anything with Carlow underage sides, including minor in the past.

Kildare barely got over Carlow in last round so they're certainly not favourites this time round. Surely Laois must be in with a shout after beating the best team in Leinster??

After Meath handed dubs game, yesterday was always going to be a difficult job. So hard to know with Laois but time will tell

Kerry minors gave cork a 10 point batin in cork
david Clifford was unreal scoring 2.08
the guy looks like the biggest talent since Maurice fitz to come out of Kerry
that's unless the aussie rules grab him

So Donegal beaten today by Antrim. Game went to Extra Time with our lads winning by a point at the long whistle. Great result!

Yes it was a good game, exciting football all throughout. Congrats to Antrim, there is character in that side. They came back from 3 points down in extra time to win it. Some great long range scores too. Hard luck our lads, no back door means no 2nd chance. But that is proper championship football.

Very good high quality game in Ballybofey at the weekend with Antrim deserving winners. They were the more composed side throughout and as DLMAN said showed great character to come through at the end. Donegal were in the position to win the game twice despite been 7 points down at one stage. Unfortunately they lacked the composure necessary to see out the game. It was a very young side with only 3 players from last years team available and I think this showed throughout with alot of nerves on display. Again Peader Mogan was immense and he is a guy who will follow Jason McGee, and Niall O'Donnell into being senior stars of the future. Liam Quinn was excellent for Antrim especially in the first half and special mention to Rurari Brolly who made some impression when he came on. My feelings before the game were that Donegal were not as strong as the previous 3 years and that the best 4 teams in the province at the grade were on the same side of the draw (Donegal, Antrim, Derry and Tyrone) and I think this proved correct. The semi final whoever Antrim play will be worth seeing before the senior game on the 18th. My Leinster dark horses in Offaly also fell by the wayside at the weekend.

"Laois unlike Dublin were actually a good side..."

Well the Dublin minors cant be all that bad now after all eh... ;o)

Beating the favourites Kildare in their own back yard 1-16 to 0-14

Dubs v Louth in the Leinster Final

Great achievement so far by Louth by the way. Fair play to them.

Great win for the Dublin minors and nice to be back in a Leinster final, its been a while for the young Dubs.

This championship seems really competitive this year.

Good game last night and an impressive win for Dublin, number 11 looked a level above everybody on the pitch and they controlled the middle pretty well at times.

Was always going to be a big ask for us to do 3 in a row and reach 5 finals in a row. There wasn't a lot between these sides at under 17 last year and after struggling against Carlow and Laois I don't think too many of us would have expected as much from this years team as previous ones.

Fair to say most people will be cheering on Louth in the final as the underdog, they've had 3 good wins so far and will get 2 more days out at least so ya never what will happen I suppose, best of luck to both anyways.

Great to see Louth get to a final and hopefully they put up a good showing in the final if not win it but the Dubs comeback win over Meath seems to have unlocked alot of their potential and they will be tough beat. I know my own fancies to do well in Leinster Offaly were undone by Louth and they were a good side though as always really hard to weigh up against other teams. As shown in Ulster Antrim who were really good in beating a young Donegal side in a high quality got beat out the gate against Derry which just shows the sometimes unpredictable nature of the grade. In saying that I expect the winners to come from Kerry and Galway semi final granted Galway win Connaught and both their quarter finals.

I have not seen Derry myself but going by their results it would take a very good Dublin team to beat them if of course they both get to a semi final as provincial winners. Derry beat a good Tyrone team and followed it up by spanking Antrim the last day. That was definitely a good Antrim side but I would the one sided result was a combination of a very good Derry performance and Antrim blowing up on the day. I remember saying to myself in Ballybofey after they beat Donegal that they would wanna get back down to planet earth very quickly as they celebrated the win on the pitch as if they had won Ulster even though it was just a quarter final.
