I can understand your thinking Joe bit I think Rory will try & qualify for the league final & I have to say I agree with him. Both teams are on a roll at the moment & I'd say they are champing at the bit to play another game as soon as they can. It beats training any day of the week & momentum is a great thing to have at your back MuckrossHead (Donegal) - Posts: 5028 - 23/03/2017 11:52:04 1970341 Link 0 |
I would be very surprised (yet pleasantly) to see Dublin get beyond a Semi final, honestly without pulling anyone leg, i think we have had better vintages then this year. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4441 - 23/03/2017 11:57:21 1970344 Link 0 |
Game was in Mullingar and ground is actually just off a dual carriage/motorway on outskirts of Mullingar so very attainable for Dublin supporters.

Sure it was in Mullingar? An hour away.

Ah they have good days and bad days muck thanks for asking, How're you getting on? And seriously ye'r lads must be very good to beat a Tyrone team by that much , it's hard to judge where we're at at the minute but we should know a bit more this time next week. I think you could be right on the money there Like you, I'm hoping last years experience will stand to them But you never know, Dublin pushed Mayo to the maximum last year and prob should have won that game (but credit Mayo) jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20587 - 23/03/2017 12:27:10 1970363 Link 0 |
Who is likely to come out of Connacht & what way dot he semi finals work? Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9070 - 23/03/2017 13:21:09 1970385 Link 0 |
I would take those prices with a few bowls of salt, the bookies are very much guessing they are lazily assuming just because we won the Minor 3 years ago ergo we will U21 in 2017. Well Mayo did manage this feat last year but I believe were only the 8th or 9th (cant remember which) to do so. A bug reason lads are gone to college and are dispersed around the country. The likes of Kerry , Mayo & Donegal would be badly affected in this refgard. Next year when this an U20 summer competition this problem will largely subside for those counties Also Donegal still have to get through 2 tough matches in Ulster, should ye do so that price will tumble further and we have to face a very tough Cork at our house of horrors in PUR next Wednesday just to get to last 4 - that price is terrible value KYTotalFootball (Kerry) - Posts: 280 - 23/03/2017 13:29:48 1970387 Link 0 |
I didn't make the odds up, the bookies are getting tighter and tighter with what they are giving away every year. They work from algorithms and have men on the ground too. I don't know enough about the Kerry team other than their pedigree from minors over the past 3 years. That is testament enough to merit their short price. I am not going to go all beal bocht on our lads now as I know they are shaping up very well, but it would not be an unexpected event to go out in the next round to Cavan, that is the nature of the competition up here. You give it your all in a fixture only to be ambushed in the next by your neighbor. I will certainly go to Breffni next wednesday night. I feel that if we can get the right result there we can think about our next game. Gaining inches is the name of the game. Talking about an all ireland price for Donegal at the moment is quite insane really. The bookies have it about right at 5.5s. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 23/03/2017 14:01:28 1970399 Link 0 |
Is it in Bref? Thought it was Enniskillen. I think on what we know Kerry are rightful fav's but KY is right they are far too short. Actually 10/11 in a place. I imagine Kerry should be that alone to win in Cork next week given the recent record there. The semi finals as far as I am aware will be Munster v Connaught and Leinster v Ulster. panamasam (Australia) - Posts: 2771 - 23/03/2017 14:51:43 1970426 Link 0 |
My bad it is Enniskillen. Sorry for panicking you!

I felt we were the better technicalteam Vs Mayo last year mate, but Mayo had that extra years growth and as such the physicality lat year, as we had a very young team for this age group. Be interested to hear if any of our lads are bigger units this year with a year behind them?

We are around 4/11 to beat Cork which is crazy considering our record in PUR, our U21 record vs Cork in the 21st century and the closeness of the Kerry Cork minor games the last 3 years. Apart from the Donegal 2014 side, those Cork sides have been our toughest opposition at Minor level I think our overall squad depth should see us through next week but I wouldn't be anywhere near as confident as the odds would indicate KYTotalFootball (Kerry) - Posts: 280 - 23/03/2017 16:33:00 1970474 Link 0 |
I think all things considered 4/11 is very skimpy but win next week and I think Kerry will be rightful fav's and probably 4/5 shots at best. From a Donegal perspective it is a very talented squad but I would be worried when coming out of Ulster and facing sides who will set up very defensive yet have forwards left inside to do damage like a Kerry.

If you combine Cork and Kerry's chances of winning the All ireland u21 straight down the middle, it works out at approx 3/1 as it stands for either team. That means they still would be favorites ahead of 7/2 the Dubs to win it. I would back Kerry as favorites at 2/1 as I said before this, but not at evens, the odds are too narrow. Anything can happen on a big day, but they still are the team to beat no doubt whatsoever. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 23/03/2017 17:01:21 1970490 Link 0 |
Con has definitely bulked up. Would have loving him to get game time in the league.

What is the breakdown of the Donegal U21 team in terms of how may 2014, 2015 & 2016 Minors are involved? Are there any players who weren't involved in any of the Minor teams KYTotalFootball (Kerry) - Posts: 280 - 23/03/2017 20:00:36 1970527 Link 0 |
11 of the minor team of 2014 were on the panel last night. I don't have any breakdowns other than that.

I should clarify when I say for example 2014 Minor that would be a player's last year at the age grade as quite a few of our players played 2 years at Minor KYTotalFootball (Kerry) - Posts: 280 - 23/03/2017 23:08:41 1970572 Link 0 |
