National - Dublin v Mayo. Who will win the 2017 All Ireland football final?

Replying To DannyMcA:  "What makes you think Dublin will play like that against Mayo? Horses for courses."
Because they would be mad not to!

Replying To Gleebo:  "Can't see Dublin being beaten if they play like they did yesterday, though our lads will not give up anything easily.

In spite of Mayo's deserved victory on Saturday, we still hit several wides and allowed Kerry three goal chances. A repeat of this will not suffice against the Dubs.

Will be signing off social media until after the game, as games between these two sides seem to bring out the worst in too many people, and life is too short."
Would love to see Mayo win the AI but i cant see them beat
the Dubs they have 6 forwards on the bench that would be starters
in any other county not alone can they do 3 in a row i think they will
be around for a while they are miles ahead of the chasing pack

At those odds I would think quite a bit of money will be placed on Mayo.

I hope Dublin put this Mayo team out of their misery and give them a good beating, year in year out all we hear is Mayo deserve this, deserve that, they have bottled it in more finals than I care to remember,
ok we got well beaten yesterday by a superb team on a day when everything went right for them and we never got playing the football we are capable of,but Tyrone will be back and when we get our chance we'll take it and not flop like Mayo do in finals.
Dublin by 10 points+

It all be a long time before ye are back in a final, especially if Mickey Harte stays around. Ye were an absolute shambles yesterday. If Mayo lose, they will at least go down fighting and it will definitely be a lot closer than 10 points+.

Can't see Dublin not winning now. Yesterday's game was mesmerizing at times. They were fantastic from 1-15 and the bench.

How exactly is losing by a point or 2 to overwhelming favourites 'flopping'?

Mayo have been underdogs in every final they've played this century.

I don't recall them poking opponent's eyes in order to win either!

This will be more of what we've seen between these two sides.
Still not much between them and both had semi finals against teams that were poor.
The physical aspect of this match will be far more intense than what was on show last day.If Dublin can operate at the top of their game they will win.
It's still going to be all to play for though I think with 10 minutes to go.

Wow. How incredibly bitter and nasty that post it. Care to explain why you have such an intense dislike of Mayo? Is it only because of us "bottling" finals or is there another reason? And you are correct, Tyrone did take a bad beating and, in my view, if one is going to be throwing around the "bottlers" tag I would level it at this current Tyrone team after that joke of a performance. There is no shame getting beat well by this Dublin team, they are exceptional, but Tyrone didn't even try a leg. That's bottling it for me, particularly after all the talk around Tyrone.

By contrast what have Mayo "bottled" this decade. To say that Mayo have "bottled" the last few finals is very disrespectful towards Dublin. It's like you are saying that if Mayo play to their full potential there is no way Dublin can win. How else can you explain Mayo losing two All Ireland Finals by 1 point to Dublin, one of these after a replay and still call them "bottlers".

As I say, you are coming across as extremely bitter towards Mayo, taking into account some of your other posts, and I would love to know the real reason why?

Who knows, you could get your wish and Dublin could give us an awful hiding. I hope you really enjoy the All Ireland Final, cheering against Mayo rather than for Dublin.

And just on a point of order, while your Sams are certainly a lot more recent, Mayo have 3, just the same as you boys. Enjoy those lemons.

Last year, there was nothing between Mayo and Tyrone. So if Dublin dealt easily with a Tyrone team playing near to their potential, then logically they should be able to put Mayo away handy enough too. If that happens, then there really is little hope for all the other counties. If however Mayo put up a good show v Dublin, there is hope for other counties. Though that would also mean that Harte's approach to the game was flawed. If Mayo also get trolleyed, the rest of us are in a grim enough place.

I figure that both teams are likely to set up and play quite similarly to the first game between Kerry and Mayo, with a high press to put pressure on the kickouts. Someone suggested that the Dubs might try something a bit radical... Gavin is firm believer in a well thought out and practiced game plan. Adjustments are just that. Besides, the Dubs are not tactically straight jacketed like Tyrone were on Sunday. They can adapt so long as no major flaw is exposed.

Dick Clerkin makes an interesting observation in todays paper...

He pretty much suggests that Mayo forward line is much better without AOS in it, i tend to agree, while AOS is excellent at winning throw ups and drawing some frees he does tend to slow up a lot of the forward play by always carrying the ball into traffic when he gets it, he never lets the ball off quick enough

Andy, COC and Doherty seemed way more liberated then usual in the 2 kerry games because of this. Ball was coming in quicker, there was more space on the D etc and the Mayo forward line functioned better than it has in years.

Also, from the last few meetings Philly McMahon has dealt with him quite comfortably when he has played up front. IMO the only place AOS can play in Final is as orthodox deep lying midfielder winning primary possession where possible

Firstly this Dublin team is one if not the best teams I have seen play they have a great blend of power, physicality, speed, and no shortage of footballing ability. Like any great team they also do the basics very well, accurate passing, taking the right option. Tyrone we have won back to back Ulster titles this year so its not all doom and gloom. Dublin v Mayo - This Mayo team are battle hardened and wont be easily beat they are also a very physically powerful team, and should match Dublin in that department, I feel Mayo will have to have the shooting boots on and if they have they will certainly push Dublin all the way. I would like to see Mayo win because they have been so close and have lost so many finals in recent years, alas I can see this Dublin team go on and win 5 or 6 All-Ireland's in a row, I rate them that highly. I wish both teams the best of luck and look forward to what should be a great All-Ireland Final.

Just looking back at last years finals on youtube, the drawn match and replay, Dublin only won by 1 point, Mayo could very easily have beaten them, I think Mayo are better now than they were last year, hard to know if Dublin are better or not, the Tyrone game was weird, Tyrone didn't really show up, it will be a dif story against Mayo, as the old fella on dads army used to say, 'they don't like it up em' Mayo will hit Dublin hard with pace and power, should be a great final again,
I have a feeling Mayo will do it this year,I don't think a lot of these fellas will accept another defeat, they have put in so much effort, can't wait for the game, hurling final which should be a cracker will tide me over till then.

Your logic is flawed. There was something between Tyrone and mayo last year one point. The same margin that was between mayo and Dublin after 2 games of football. Final will be good as mayo will bring hunger and intensity to the game which Dublin haven't experienced yet this year. Tyrone got hockeyed because they produced a quite frankly flat and heartless performance. They had no fight no belief no courage all the things mayo have in bucket loads. The final will be brilliant.

Hopefully Mayo have already peaked and also shown their cards in the 2 Kerry games. :o)

The orchistrated pre-match shenanigans of last Sept by Mayo wont make any difference if repeated this year.

Jim and our lads know we under performed on both occassions last year and hopefully we still have another gear to go to in 3 weeks time.

It will be some battle and here is hoping we are not talking about a refereeing decision/s after the game...

Speaking of which - has the ref been announced yet.?

They have put in so much effort of course. But so have the Dublin lads. All teams do.
