believe me for us or indeed for any other success starved county it is - we are probably gonna have around 15k travelling fans at this

Limerick will have nice motivation for the final after what happened in the minor v KK 3 years ago. Good way to be going into a game.

U21 is much more important than minor in my opinion as you have lads developed furthur down the line and ready for senior.

You may lose a few to 'women and wine' between 18 and 21 and some minors don't progress but when you've got them to 20/21 there's a much better chance you'll get senior players from the team.

That's why the 2 U21 teams, 2015 and 2017 are so important to Limerick hurling as the county is in a lull at senior level. The last notable Limerick senior performance was that smashing match against Kilkenny in the all ireland semi in the rain in 2014 which could have went either way.

Significantly since 2008 a Munster county has won the final bar Galway in 2011. It's 9 years since Kilkenny won in 2008. They had players like Richie Hogan, Tj Reid, Kieran Joyce, Matthew Ruth, John Mullhall, Colin McGrath, Paul Murphy, Lester Ryan, Paddy Hogan, John Joe Farrell and Colin Fennelly playing that day. So 11 players who went on to play senior. That stat in itself shows the importance of the U21 grade. The Tipp team they beat had Mickey Cahill, Paudie Maher, Tom Stapleton, Brendan Maher, Bonnar Maher, Gearoid Ryan, Pa Bourke, Seamus Callinan and John O'Keeffe playing. 9 future seniors and Noel McGrath was around the panel though only 17 or so too.

Replying To Oldtourman:  "I absolutely agree with you that Thurles should not be the automatic venue for U21 Semi Finals or finals. If Galway had qualified for the Final the same year as Antrim the game would still have to be played in Thurles. Utterly insane. And yes it was absurd that Galway had to play Tipp there in 2010."
I also agree re thurles being the automatic venue for u21 finals - nonsense & should be moved around based on who's playing

It's a GAA HQ decision. Ennis would have been the ideal location for it, full house, cracking atmosphere.

Was the national Fleadh Ceoil competition on Ennis last week. If it was the match could have. been played there

should have read 'on in Ennis last week end' and 'if it was match could hardly have been staged there'.

absolutely right - we are competing against munster, well supported club rugby and limerick fc (and i support them too) so to have our county team in the spotlight is huge in terms of keeping kids engaged, talk in the county is all about the semi final and now the final,
would give us a massive confidence boost to win this one and the campaign so far has given senior management food for thought in terms of next year.

think myself ennis is better for limerick v galway game - played galway there in 2001 semi and galway had little support,
wasnt possible last week due to fleadh ceoil

and agree thurles shoundt be automatic venue for final and semis - inlot of cases it will be

bear in mind its likely both managements would have preferred thurles for this semi as the final would be there and so the winners would have familiarilty with the place, and with the amount of games thurles gets you need familiarity with semple stadium.

Gaa have shown strange attitude to match locations - playing qfinals in cork, munster final should have been limerick , mayo v cork should have been in ennis, even playing round 4 qualifiers in croke park

I think it'll be close but if pushed would choose Limerick i too was impressed especially in last few min v galway as i felt we were in big trouble, there's talk of C Lynch and K Hayes being injured if either can't play it'd be an awful loss.Really looking forward to it we've done well in this comp in recent years but we never played Kilkenny in any of those finals and that for me gives this one extra spice

Limerick have had a tougher route to the final, especially the semi final victory over Galway compared to Kilkenny's facile win over Derry which would have told Eddie Brennan nothing about his team. I've been impressed by Kilkenny so far, it's nice to see a Kilkenny team play with a bit of skill and intelligence compared to the caveman hurling our seniors have been producing the last few years. On a personal level, a win on Saturday would be a redemption for Eddie Brennan following the defeat to Westmeath last year. I thought he'd get the sack after that but credit the county board for sticking with him, he seems to be doing a good job and he's got the team playing a nice brand of hurling.

I hope a big Kilkenny crowd go as Limerick will bring a huge crowd. Kilkenny underage teams tend only to attract fans who have a fellow clubman playing.

Looking at it logically though, Limerick should win. They have a very good team, have been thoroughly tested and came through them all, and will have a huge support behind them. Hoping for a good final, I think under 21 has been consistently the most entertaining championship over the past decade due to the fact that no one team will dominate for an extended period of time, so different counties come through every year.

Not sure why it's on at 3, a bit early for a Saturday - the last several finals have been evening throw-ins, don't know where this change is coming from.

reason for it is coz munster play at 515 and tg4 are showing that too, tg4 also showing b final
prefer it myself -kids get home a bit earlier - although i seem to be in the minority of one on this!

Looking forward to Saturday's game, last top quality inter county one of the summer bar a replay.

May the best team win and it's a big deal for both counties. Special best wishes to Janesboro who loves her (at least i think you're female!) who's a great hurling poster.

In Laois our last 2 U21 finals, were football, naturally enough. We lost to Cork by a point in 2007 and Kerry by 3 in 1998. I can remember how huge those U21 finals were for a county like us. We probably should have won both. Hit a lot of wides in 2007 and really gifted a strong Kerry team a 2 goal lead in 1998.Kerry had Mike McCarthy, Tomás O'Sé, Mike Frank, Aodan Mac Gerailt, Tom O'Sullivan, the late Kenneth Leen, Tommy Griffin, Eamonn Fitzmaurice, Noel Kenneally and Pa O'Sullivan.

Really looking forward to the game tomorrow, i thought Limericks semi final was a brilliant game. It would be a big boost to Limerick to have another underage team collect silver, Galway are proof that if the underage sides are continually strong then eventually it will pay dividends at senior. It's a strange thing to say but Kilkenny could probably do with the boost of an u21 All-Ireland win as well. As they have had the harder run and will have learned the most I fancy Limerick to do the job in front of their excellent supporters tomorrow.
