Down v Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see Conall McCann is in the starting lineup! A big game for Conall - he has plenty of experienced men around him - so he should be OK!

COME ON TYRONE!

A hard earned 6 or 7 point win for Tyrone. I know that seems a bit contradictory but if Tyrone keep tabs on Harrison I can't see Down getting the scores needed to win.
I hope I'm wrong and it turns out to a classic but would worry for Down in the second half with Tyrone's relentless style of play.

I dunno what it is about Down but they are very likeable, the county in general, not this particular team. I hope they do well on Sunday.

Replying To Thomas Clarke:  "Good man, Gary - you never fail to foretell Tyrone's downfall. Luckily your punditry skills are very rarely on the mark.

This time, you've outdone yourself with bizarre logic, but let me try and get this right: So, Tyrone will lose as they know next to nothing about the Down players and system, and will have been all at sea over the last few weeks trying to figure out who Kevin McKiernan and the Johnstons are?

Seriously man, lay off the drugs. If you've nothing sensible to write, then why bother?..."
GAA and all sports are about opinion. Nobody says anybody is right or wrong. Yes like us all Gary is not always correct but I always find his posts to be thoughtful and insightful whether I agree with them or not. Respect goes along way in life so maybe use some in the future rather than using snide remarks.

As for the game itself I think Tyrone will win. I have really enjoyed Down's first 2 games. They have played with real vigor in defense and showed plenty of variation in attack. I feel the fitness of Harrison is imperative to their chances tomorrow. If he is not 100% I think they really could struggle to get scores. I thought Tyrone were fantastic against Donegal and showed real signs of progress under the master Mickey Harte. However Donegal were pathetically poor on the day and have hardly pulled up trees since. On the otherhand both Monaghan and Armagh are giving Down's form some substance but as already alluded to Harrison is vital for their progress. I think Down will put a a very good show but expect Tyrone to win by 3 plus points.

Surely Peter Turley will start.
I know Donal O'Hare has been injured but he is a great player with a great scoring record in Ulster and against Tyrone. 1-8 against Tyrone in two games a few years ago. Scoring forwards don't grow on trees and I would worry if he does.

Totally agree.

Not called for at all.

It's not like they were having a battle throughout the game or a continuous war of words.

Just childish really

I hate that crap. It's actually a black card offence, I'd like refs to start enforcing that.

In Eugene McGee's much celebrated black card rules that warrants a black card:

Cynical Behaviour Fouls

"4. threaten or to use abusive or provocative language or gestures to an opponent of a teammate."

Engrained in their psyche.

It seens to be systematically encouraged and applauded in Tyrone unfortunately.

Well done Tyrone. Monaghan might get a go at ye if we can beat the next team we play. Tyrone look good to go very far this year.

I hope Gary Mc hadnt much money with the bookie's this weekend as he would have lost a lot predicting Carlow and Down wins.

Have to disagree with you on that.
No doubt I have saw some of our lads verbally abuse and goad in the past but the last few years this seems to have been stopped.
Morgan shouldn't have did that and I didn't see anything happen between them before to cause that type of reaction.
As for the the other players on the field I feel that the down players seemed to be the ones engaging in sledging and goading, I watched on TV so I only saw what the camera showed so thats just my opinion.

Even Tyrone people don't like Morgan apparently - Mickey Oneill better keeper is the general consensus !

Bitter and jealous Cavan man with very little to do this summer. I look forward to your posts condemning all incidents of sledging in the remaining championship games.

It's extremenly nasty and should have been dealt with by the ref. I think that it is a black card offence.

How important was Kevin McKernan being black carded, defo was a factor in the game. Our sweeper going off. There's no way that warranted a black card, Kieran McGearys maybe. It was 10-5 at that stage but after that it was near game over.
