Hang on a minute were you deaf watching the Down v Monaghan game? And don't give me this "ah but they were 20+ points ahead" and then making a gross insulting generalisation like they are Dubs Uncouth etc etc Who the hell are you to make a sweeping comment like that? A most ignorant comment surprised the administrator allowed it, if you are incapable of keeping a check on your prejudices you shouldn't be commenting here.

why? one result so lets get rid of the pro's? most other provs are reasonably competitive. the gaa should be dividing their funds around more, they put huge money into dublin for years and this is the result.

First this match should not have been televised I feel asleep at the match imagine if I was lying on the couch at home!! Second this nonsense system that pits a Div 4 team against a Div 1 team is madness. There are Senior teams, Intermediate teams and there are Juniors teams, ditto for counties that is the reality and competition should reflect that reality. Third Dublin were sublime, incisive kicking, precision scoring, incredible diagonal passing and superb athletic over lapping. Not only did they play that way but they didn't allow the opposition play at all. I have never witnessed anything like this. Fourth it is extremely tough on Westmeath not sure what that does to the players and the game in the county. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4892 - 25/06/2017 18:04:14 2004867 Link 2 |
How does a champions league style format help matters. What happened to Westmeath today could pretty much happen to any team other than the top 4 or 5. Westmeath earned their right to play Dublin. They lost badly so what. They'll have another game or 2 this year and who knows maybe a big win out of them. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4172 - 25/06/2017 18:05:24 2004868 Link 0 |
Very seldom I don't bother watching a live game, today's decision to avoid certainly vindicated. Please RTE no more of these snore fests I couldn't take another Sunday shopping with the Mrs..... sean og (Armagh) - Posts: 1053 - 25/06/2017 18:07:15 2004871 Link 0 |
I felt sorry for Westmeath, very difficult for them taking on Dublin having played in Division 4 this year. Some great scores from Dublin but it really was a boring game, I lost interest well before half time. Green_Gold (Donegal) - Posts: 1870 - 25/06/2017 18:17:35 2004877 Link 0 |
The people who say Dublin play the same style as Kerry, Tyrone, Mayo, Donegal, Monaghan are deluding themselves. Westmeath would get within 5 points of those teams. HurlingSnob (Dublin) - Posts: 220 - 25/06/2017 18:25:51 2004882 Link 1 |

Ah now Ulsterman, sure you cant make sweeping statements like that !! It's not a dig at the Dubs in particular, although it happens all too frequently at their games, it's just an un-sporting habbit that should not be part of our games. yelowbelly (Wexford) - Posts: 409 - 25/06/2017 18:44:20 2004899 Link 1 |
would you agree that the gaa need to divide funds more fairly?

Thats because all of those teams named wouldn't get to play at home , haven't ridiculous populations or haven't received an extortionate amount of funding allied with sponsorship benefits etc

That wasn't a bad prediction. If you had taken Dublin with a 25 point handicap you could have made a few bob and had a happiness hedge.

Disappointing result. I would have said this morning that it would be better for westmeath to play football against Dublin rather than playing negatively. Was I wrong. Do we not have the footballers?. I still after today think we do. I watched the link on facebook this morning on the 2004 win. That was a great team but looking at the players we have now I think they are as good. My question is , have Dublin got to good for us or is it that we Westneath don't have the bottle anymore. Before I get a reply I think the county board need to get a manager that needs to understand the game. For the last 5 years we have gone from div 1 to 4 and back to 3. They kept Tom on because he got to two Leinster finals but we were poor in the league. We need positive leadership and I don't think we have it at the higher level and going forward in what I see in the county board level we will be a long time before it changes. A champions league format will give the same thing. If you go by the 4 divisions it would mean a group like Dublin, cork,Sligo and carlow Is that any different to the route dublin will play in Leinster Kildare same level as cork Sligo similiar or less than westmeath Carlow as is same in Leinster. You will just end up with dead rubbers if you have to play home and away hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 25/06/2017 18:56:44 2004912 Link 0 |

it is killing the game in leinster. young lads in other counties see what is happening with dublin and drift away from the game sadly..
