Dublin v Mayo. Who will win the 2017 All Ireland football final?

Replying To Laois76:  "My tuppence worth..

Mayo positives:

Mayo have always given Dublin a game since 2012. Drawing twice beating them once. Mayo are a pacey, physical side they'll compete for everything and if they can deny the Dublin team enough possession can win. They really need to dominate possession. Mayo are coming into the final in good form. They are underdogs, which suits them and most teams. They might get a little 'West's Awake Boost' from Galway's hurling win. They have 2 or 3 decent subs to bring in. Mayo need Lee Keegan to up his game to 2016 levels. To get more out of the O'Connors. If a few more step up to the mark it's a 50/50 game. Mayo battle hardened.

Mayo negatives:

Subs bench not as strong as the All Star Dublin bench. Overall they're forwards are not as good. Psychological baggage..a lot of it. Haven't proved they can get over the line in an All-Ireland Final when it's theirs for the taking. Manager prone to clangers. David Clarke subbed last year. Subbing players early.

Dublin positives:

Playing excellent football. Better than last year. New younger players like Scally and O'Callaghan, Lowndes, Small (there a bit longer) keeping household names off the bench. Jim Gavin is a brilliant, modest, no nonsense, grounded manager. His team mirrors that. Being favourites and media hype should not faze them. Possibly, nay probably, the greatest panel of players assembled in gaelic football.

Dublin negatives:

3 in a row hard to do, not done since 1986 Kerry. Teams having excellent seasons can still throw in one poorer game. Not tested. Tyrone played 'turtle' football and went into their shell, tackling non existent, in comparison Dublin played 'total' football. If Mayo play at high intensity and go ahead, how will less experienced players cope? When the experienced subs come on can they break a Mayo stranglehold such as Mayo had when dominating Kerry for 2 matches?

The weather:

Might seem a strange point but i think Mayo might be a little more suited to a wet day. Harder for slicker forwards to control the ball as it bounces off them easier to break it in contact etc. Can prove a leveller.

Verdict: Dublin by a few points. Until Mayo break the hoodoo how can realistically side with them over a proven team? I hope Mayo win for the people of Mayo and their excellent team. If Dublin win i'll wholeheartedly congratulate a great team.

It's very simple analysis everyone and has all been stated before. But it's a simple enough game. Control possession, take your scores, defend well. Don't bottle it and drive on when in a winning position."
Lol.

Dublin will win it handy enough I reckon. Cant see anyone stopping them. I cant see any reason why they cant do the 5 in a row. They are still so far ahead of every other team. They are not just beating teams they are just blowing them away and I cant see the final V Mayo being any different.

I wouldn't mind him. He contributes nothing constructive but puts 'Lol' under the posts of those making a genuine effort.

His posts are negative and small minded. He spent the days before his county were in a hurling all-ireland whingeing about the Dubs. The very epitome of begrudgery.

As the old saying goes 'someone stole his bun'!!

Aiden,
I don't see this handy win manifesting itself for Dublin. Mayo are not going to give Dubs a handy one of it on Sunday week. They are too familiar and are always close games with only a kick of a ball in it over the last few years.
I see another close affair with it going either way on the day.

Dublin are always going to be exceptionally difficult to beat, but no team is invincible and this Mayo team are familiar enough with the Dubs to pull it off. I think Mayo will finally end their drought and win the All Ireland at long last.

It's not that Dublin didn't play any decent sides en-route to the All Ireland Final, more that they didn't get really and truly tested. Dublin were never really in a situation this year where they looked like losing their composure, where they were put on the back foot tactically to the extent where they needed to change tact. Carlow to date provided Dublin with possibly their toughest game, certainly their most challenging in terms of defensive structure.

Mayo have already proved they can give Dublin a game, but they now need to beat Dublin and not concede own goals etc.

LOL, mind yourself on that fence that you don't hurt yourself. If you fell off & hurt the hand & weren't able to type you mightn't reach the 4000 mark ! Pointing out the Dublin finances certainly has rattled many cages on here, some people don't like the status quo been challenged. Mostly I come on here to read your posts for a good laugh !!

I called the game, Dublin by a few points. I broke it down as best i could. You're in great form this week, for obvious reasons, good luck to you. You rattled no one's cage. That's flattering yourself. Your arguments were littered with inaccuracies. There was no correlation between all the money you alleged Dublin received underage and in performance. One minor title between 2006 and 2015. You were systematically taken apart dna!! You are reduced to 'loling' this week!! Now i read your posts and they make me laugh as you think so small.. Small man paranoia i think they call it.

Also what is the 4,000 mark? You've lost me there completely. Maybe a few too many beverages. Lol!

It was a great weekend in Croker. Just goes to show you that teams can win without fascination with money.

Did you get to enjoy it at all? You were on here half an hour before throw in going through Dublin's Annual Reports?

Definitely need savers Bud, never mentioned any correlation between all the money Dublin received underage and success anywhere in the posts, never mentioned anything specific about minors, more deflection by the love Dublin brigade, maybe it was you that was on the beverages, next you will be telling me you walk around the house in Dublin wearing the sky blue jersey. Don't know what the 4000 mark is, oh deary me, the denial, LOL.

Maybe it was 35/40 mins?! Who cares you were beavering away all week!!

Why don't you just train kids how to play football (or hurling in my case)?? Instead of moaning?? Better to light a candle than curse the darkness..eh?

Do you think the genius of Pele, Maradona, both Ronaldos and Messi was the result of finance? Probably the opposite. The kids were trying to kick anything they could in some way make round out in the streets. The first world problems of Galway football... A county that has won as much underage as Dublin in recent years. But because ye can't make a senior team out of them blame the Dubs, blame money etc. How about becoming consistent and fixing that so called full back line of yours? Meanwhile Mayo are blaming no one. They're working away, very very close. Could shade it on 17th.
