The Mayo side who have been in semi finals or finals the last 5 years , that's a very good Mayo team the best Mayo team they ever had imo (no one on here was alive in '51), the great Kerry and Tyrone teams didn't hammer everyone either but you obviously refuse to remember that.

And please stop with the McConnell bs Stephen Cluxton is the greatest keeper of all time, it's not even close."
Cluxton is a great kicker clon but he's a poor stopper , you think because he can ping a ball 20/30 yards to an unmarked man he's the greatest keeper ever?

But hey your intitled to your opinion kid .
McConnell was a beast between the sticks, I was in the hill the day he made an outrageous block with his leg from Declan O'sullivan late in the game and helped win Tyrone the allireland in 08, make no mistake if that goal had gone in we could have had 3/4 in a row in the naughties.

It's beyond a joke at this stage."
Right you are.
Things must be pretty shi*e when you take everything so seriously.
You have a good new year now.

Such a beast that would of been a sub only for the first choice keepers father died the night before. Yeah Cluxton's never made a save in his whole career sure he's been doing them kick outs since his debut and nothing else.

Just another example of your lack of originality. Looks like more of the same from you unfortunately in 2017.

I was speaking to Tyrone lads after the game that day and I asked them that question as to why McConnell was to be a sub for the final and every 1 of them told me the same thing and that was it was club politics the other keeper was from the same club as mickey harte, I can't think of that keepers name at the minute was it John Devlin or something like that.

You are taking things very seriously my friend. Think you need to sit down for a while. Can't we just be friends?

You have always been one of the fairest most balanced posters on this forum and I'd say you like to look at the good in every team, but even you have to admit that the dubs get more dubious decisions from refs then any other teams ?
What really really brought this home to me was Joe macquillan in 2011 Dave coldricl in 2015 and especially David gough in this years semifinal. I had seen gough ref many games and he always refer them to the letter of the law and I was delighted he got this years semi but then he totally changed the way he reffed he let so many things go it was beyond unusual for him.
And that's just from the Kerry side of things there have been loads more strang incidents between dubs and other teams that you'd question ref decisions, as the great Paud o'sé would say a grain of rice could tip the scales , well the refs seem to make sure they tip towards the dubs."
Every county has refs that they don't like very much. I remember Couldrick cost us games with his calls in the past, smaller calls that he allowed the game to go on instead of blowing up for frees. The biggest offender in my memory is Marty Duffy. He has wrecked games on us in the past. But other counties will have no complaints about him. Curious how a ref can be for or against a team or a way of playing.

But I would also concede that there are refs that have allowed us a slight advantage over the course of time too, so I would say it balances out over the course of a season. Unfortunate that it might happen in a semi or a final rather than the provincial stage (second chance if beaten).

yeah that Mayo side. They have one marquee forward to turn to. I'd love to see how Dublin would cope with the twin towers and Gooch in their prime (two of them still put it up to ye in their twighlight years) or Canavan, Mugsy and O'Neill not to mention the Galvins, O'Sullivans, McQuiggans etc playmaking behind that. I'm sure poor Cluxton hasn't forgot picking the ball out of his net several times against them in the past and is very glad that era is over and hasn't been replaced with many hardened teams.

i hope most Dublin posters don't take this the wrong way as i have a lot of respect for the current team but there are one or two posters that need reminding of the era before 2011.

I know what your saying Donegal man but the dubs get more benifit from dubious referee decisions then anyone else.
Watch it now in 2017 the dubs will have maquillan coldrick and gough and that ref from Laois do all there big games and they will do the 3 in a row without a doubt you can put your house on that.

But that's my point even the great Kerry and Tyrone teams struggled against average sides yet your only pointing out dublin against what you think is an average Mayo team. What about Kerry luckily beating Sligo after they missed a last minute peno? Or Tyrone getting bet by Mayo in 04 who Kerry went into hammer in the final? Or Kerry barely beating an average Dublin team in 07? I can pick out loads more games if you want me to were the great Kerry or Tyrone teams didn't hammer every team they played. By the way Gooch has done nothing against us since '13 and donaghy when he's 50 would still cause trouble cause the man is huge and has great hands.

Its maybe easier for you to see it this way. If Eamonn Fitz and Mickey Harte, were selecting their championship teams for 2017 and they had a choice of picking their current crop or what the county had 10 - 12 years ago I think both would bite your hand off to go with the sides of the previous era. Now given the fact that the current Tyrone team only lost by a point to Mayo in a game they could easily have won and Kerry's current team beat Mayo the last time they met in a major championship match, would it not be common sense to assume that Dublin would be involved in a serious rivalry that would be well above the level that they currently have with Mayo? and that they wouldn't have it quite as plain sailing as they currently do?

By the way the Tyrone 04 reference was a little bit cheap given the circumstances behind that season. Lets hope Dublin nor any county have to endure something as tragic as losing any player let alone a captain and leader like Cormac. The fact that they bounced back and won two more AI 's when lesser teams might have folded is a testament to the greatness of that side.

Also, I would have no doubt that Dublin would still have won AI's even with those two great sides in the same era. They are great champions also and that would have shone through, but as many as four? I doubt it.

Works both ways though.

Would Kerry and Tyrone have carved up the decade the way they did if this current Dublin team was around?

We were always at our most vulnerable when we went through the Backdoor clon as we wouldn't have been anywhere near our peak, we nearly got beat by Westmeath another time above in mulingar although saying that, we are the only team to have a 100% record in the qualifiers , 12 games played 12 games won. We had a seriously good cork team to contend with in the naughties something ye don't have in Leinster in the teenies. I suppose every little helps.

Well said saffrondon I know Tyrone Armagh cork and even Meath and Galway at the start of naughties, limerick should have beat us in o4 Munster final.
Teams were a lot closer back then but now thanks to the GAA pumping millions in to the dubs the whole thing has got seriously warped.
