Terribly sad news, RIP Tony Keady. As Daithi Regan put it last week, he was the prince of centre backs.

Just heard the sad news. At the young age of 53 he passed away after a short illness. He was one of Galway's all time greats and along with Peat the central figure of their half back line along with Pete Finnerty and Gerry McInerney. They were one of the best half back lines of the modern era. Tony if I'm right in thinking he was good for a point from 65s and long distance frees. Best wishes to his wife and family. RIP

What a shock. I had the privilege of seeing him play alongside Pete Finnerty and Gerry Mc many times when that great half-back line was in its prime. RIP Tony.

Gone way before his time, a legend of the game and he will never be forgotten particularly in Galway hurling circles. RIP Tony Keady, and deepest sympathies to his young family who have lost a husband and father way before his time.

Indeed you are right, he was a great man to stand over a ball. He once joked (or maybe not) that as he used to bend down to scoop the sliotar at the same time the umpire would stoop to gather the white flag. RIP Tony, slan abhaile.

Shocking news to hear of a man so young and fit and with so much life to live taken so suddenly, certainly a hurler who stood out for me when watching in my younger days, sincere condolences to his family and friends, RIP Tony

I have come to the conclusion over the past month that Tony Keady is probably hurling's greatest character.
All the stories, blaming RTE for him missing man of the match because "They should have given it to him at half time".
Deliberately missing frees in training to drive Cyril Farrell mad.
The yarn he told in the pub about him having fallen out with Conor Hayes, returning to the group to tell them "yeah myself and Conor don't really get on, he was hurling so well in the half back line he was making Hayes look bad and Conor didn't like it"!!

You could not make up such a character, and they are all to infrequent in modern GAA.
RIP Tony, gone but never to be forgotten.
