Cork vs Tipp (Hurling)

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It's hard to not say that cork are currently going through a miserable time in both hurling and football. I think this match would good if both teams played tough and start a few good scraps to get the crowd going in the first 15 minutes and then both teams would want to win, it always works they will get their adrenaline going and play with some ruthlessness. I have to go for a Tipp win though.

Cork forwards will have to play at their best and score 25 points plus to make up for their average defense. Not impossible but unlikely.

Irrelevant match this one. Tipperary will definitely be playing hurling at Semifinal stage regardless of how they get there. We will know how good Cork are when they come head to head in a winner takes all game. Another go at Wexford (who beat us last year and have become better this year) is what Cork needs. Not some shadow boxing nonsense from a Tipp team that will probably go training on Sunday morning.

Cant see anything but a Tipp win here.

Although, Tipp were huge favorites in first round of the championship in 2010 and Cork blew them away at home. Tipp went on to win the All Ireland that year though.

Dont think Cork have the talent of that Cork team though and Corks display against Tipperary last year in the championship was the worst I have ever seen from a Cork team in the Munster championship.

Cork have absolutely nothing to loose. They wouldn't be expected to come out on the right side of this one.I don't see Tipp being slack though as they like nothing better than giving Cork a trimmin so I'd say they'll win handy enough in the finish.Cork have to go out and give it a lash and if they're to have any hope play above themselves and score goals.

Corjk at 3/1 are massive odds for this. The noises from the Tipp camp aren't good and with the distractions of injuries, suspensions and players leaving the camp the optimism for the year isn't as strong as it was. The form of the majority of Tipps big players isn't good. Of last years team only Padraic Maher and John and Noel McGrath have played where they left off last year. The rest need to get up to speed as quickly as possible.
I'll probably get the comments that we are playing down Tipps chances but I'm genuinely worried. On paper Cork have definitely one of the best forward lines in the country. I'd expect if Tipp can crank up the intensity that they might pull it off. 3/1 is big odds though and must be tempting for the cork supporters and neutrals

There isn't any shadow boxing in the Munster championship. If you think otherwise then your wrong. There's 4 serious competitions in hurling each year and the Munster championship comes in second after the All Ireland.

Go to the games if you want. Only 26,000 turned up to the final last year. The lowest that I can ever remember - perhaps 1983 was slightly lower. The Munster Council want you to believe it is relevant competition. However, only the All-Ireland matters.

There are only 4 realistic contenders (KK, Tipp, Waterford and Galway) and only 5 other teams that are competitive - teams that beat the top 4 in any given match (Clare, Wexford, Limerick, Cork and Dublin). As the Munster championship does nothing to prevent a team from winning the All-Ireland, nor eliminates any team it does not have much relevance.

Bragging rights don't even mean anything. You won Munster in 2013 while another Munster county (Clare) won the All-Ireland. We won it in 2014 while Tipp ending up getting to the final - slaughtering us in the semi-final. Limerick lost semi-finals in 2013 and 2014 -were much closer in 2014 the year they failed to win Munster.

All of this is not to say that the Munster championship is a hindrance (Tipp won it last year and won the All-Ireland). My point is that it is an irrelevance. It matters not a jot whether you win or lose it. You can make countless arguments and counter arguments about the benefits of rest versus playing matches. However, the best teams will win regardless. Years ago they had to win province before they won All-Ireland. Now they don't and with so few competitors in the sport anyway, there is almost no point in subdividing them into these archaic groups.

Yeah the whole Forde suspension is an unnecessary distraction that seems to be taking up too much time within the camp. As harsh and all as it is, we should park it and knuckle down.

It's sad to say but the losers on Sunday will be in a better position than the winners. It would not bother me one bit if Tipp lost Sunday cause then we would have a nice handy run in till the quarter final. The winners will have to face Waterford and maybe then Limerick or Clare.

Slightly worried same as last year bad vibes from the camp , injuries to key players, finishing the league poorly could have an effect on us. In 2014 Limerick came to Thurles without a prayer and after Tipp were beaten in the league final by KK you could see the scars still there. Limerick caught us in the end and Tipp just don't learn Year after Year. Cork you just never know they have some good new talent in Kingston and Meade along with Leaned,Horgan and Harnadey who can do damage to what looks like a very fragile Tipp full back line. I sense we may be beaten and wouldn't surprise me if Cork won.

Micky Cahill is also out for Sunday, hamstring injury in training the weekend. With no corner backs left I can see a Cork win

Any news on Bonner Maher? I doubt he'll be fit for Sunday

Tipp will be well aware of the potential pitfalls but are an experienced outfit so should be able to see this one out with 4 to 5 points to spare;

Are they trying to cram in some extra fitness after the Galway game cos a lot of players seem to be picking up hamstring injuries?

Barrett and Barry will be ok right? O'Keefe is a good option at corner back if fit. Thos Hamill is too slow to be playing in the full back line.

Bonner would be a big loss if out, especially with no O'Meara to take his place.

You could hear a church mouse in Cork cos they have been so low key in the build up to this. I reckon Cork are going to unleash hell on us, hopefully we will be ready for them.

From what I'm hearing James Barry is the only one fit and ready for Sunday all the rest of inside back line are carrying injuries. They over did it in training from the week before Wexford game and with club games on top of that this is where all injuries are coming from. I think our best chance this year is the back door. I feel Galway, KK, Waterford and Clare will in be the Munster and Lenister finals so the back door could give Tipp an easy enough run to quarter finals.

I think the old saying "Cork are very quiet" stood up on the past. At the moment though Cork are very quiet for different reasons.
The reason Cork are so quiet is that there are very little pundits/Cork public tuned in to it as the expectation is so low. After last year Cork are coming from a very low base and the result of events & results in the last decade is that Cork Hurling/GAA have lost the interest of the general public. I can thankfully at last sew a few positive seeds being sown underage again.
Based on the game last year Cork were so poor that Tipp could afford to lose 3-4 starters and still win. The head says when you look at it on paper Tipp are by some way the better Team and should still have enough to win on Sunday even if not at full tilt. I fear them getting 3 or 4 goals. My reaction to the League Final while watching it was "oh no" as we were going to get the backlash.
However in Cork-Tipp games every 10 years or so there is 1 result that goes against the grain (Tipp 07, Cork 2010) especially in the non-knockout games so going in hope more than anything that Cork might have a very outside chance. That said I would be delighted if Cork left all their recent past and flat performances behind them and tore in to Tipp on Sunday playing the Cork traditional way for 70 minutes and if that is not good enough try to improve further again the next day. It would be more realistic & serve them better long term than a fluke result that makes them look better than they really are.

You hear mad stuff the week of a match. Apparently Bubbles has been dropped for disciplinary reason. Doesn't surprise me if true!!
