Under Age - 2018

(Oldest Posts First)

I know that inter county Minor competitions next year will be U-17.

But is it true that the under age CLUB competitions are going over to U-13,U-15 & U-17?

Anyone on here able to fill us in?

Each county can change or not, depends on if its voted in at the county convention or not. I'd hope that every county would adopt under 17, 15,13 it's the way forward

As far as I know Kilkenny have adopted same as county thus their minor grade for club will be under 17 , but in Dublin no change that Im aware of club minor staying at under 18.

The word is that nearly all Leinster and Connacht counties are going 11,13,15,17.

Heard motion to change under age groups was at deferred at Special Congress on Saturday with individual counties to do their own thing in the interim?

Anyone have any news on this?

The motion for the Special Congress was deferred, and wouldn't have come into effect until 2019 anyway.

One of the issues with the motion that came up with Galway clubs is that the lower age limit for u17, u15, u13 was the same as in the old lower limits for u18,, u16, u14 - that is that club u18 at present you could play u15 players, but the proposed limit for u17 was also u15s (rather than dropping a year also to allow u14s play) and so on, so it would have reduced the number of players eligible to play each grade which could really affect clubs that are already struggling for numbers.

Not really a good argument though. U14 probably shouldn't be playing U17. Physically there is a huge difference.
