Funny, Mayo are actually playing a GAA game v Sligo this weekend but I wouldn't be surprised if RTE dedicate a camera to Aidan sitting in the stand (Aidan Cam) if indeed he does start on the bench....and the Indo journalists could have a half time debate on Aidan's movements on the bench and ensure he does not sign any autographs or appears to steo out of line. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11230 - 19/05/2017 09:39:08 1988228 Link 2 |
That's a very young half forward line. Conor O'Shea could be a key player for Mayo this year and if he gets into the game right away then Sligo will have tough time containing the Mayo attack. Sligo's main strength is their own attack. If they get enough ball they're capable of putting up a decent score. Still I can't see anything less than a 5 point win for Mayo, so long as the team plays with energy. Pericles (Mayo) - Posts: 2521 - 19/05/2017 10:31:50 1988254 Link 0 |

I expect Sligo go go very defensive and Mayo to struggle to break them down initially but to pull away in the last 15 unclegerry (Mayo) - Posts: 1222 - 19/05/2017 16:14:40 1988388 Link 0 |
How many steps did he take for that goal? gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 21/05/2017 14:37:12 1988795 Link 2 |
If Sligo played a bit more direct in the first half they would have been leading.. Mayo struggling to break the blanket defence again.. Some terrible sides from Boland, o shea and Moran.. W/o the wind they will pull away however Belclare1 (Galway) - Posts: 1626 - 21/05/2017 14:42:06 1988796 Link 0 |
Good enough first half, hopefully Sligo don't start playing badly now that they are against the wind. I can see them going very defensive now in the second half. oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 21/05/2017 14:50:32 1988800 Link 0 |
He did over carry but he was being fouled so advantage was given. But is that a rule ? Can you over carry when being fouled or if you over carry should the free be given to the player being fouled when the ref signals for advantage? You get me?

Question about the advantage rule. Where does it say in the rule book if the ref gives you the advantage you can take 9 steps before putting the ball in the net? I mean by getting an advantage does it entitle you to foul the ball?? Chops (Westmeath) - Posts: 775 - 21/05/2017 15:07:36 1988804 Link 0 |
Sligo better team in second half.. Belclare1 (Galway) - Posts: 1626 - 21/05/2017 15:25:19 1988807 Link 0 |
I think if you foul the ball whilst having advantage the play should go back for a free. In general Mayo got a lot of the marginal calls there in my opinion. The second goal should have been a free out for picking the ball off the ground. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4217 - 21/05/2017 15:32:32 1988808 Link 0 |
Durcan hopped ball twice in build up to first goal

I agree referee favoured mayo a lot more today, got all the calls. Mayo look as bad as last year yet we all know how close they got in the end.

Clear pick off the ground & an illegal hand pass across the goal.

The other thing worth noting was Mayo's use of the tactical / cynical fouling around sligo half back line..same sort of stuff from Mayo as we have seen over the years strong in the backs and midfield but very poor in the forwards Doherty is not up to it at all moran has to be used as an impact sub. For me seamus o shea was Mayo best player. jacktheDub (Dublin) - Posts: 944 - 21/05/2017 15:48:26 1988813 Link 1 |
Mayo won't be winning Sam again this year on today's evidence. M Lyster (Antrim) - Posts: 461 - 21/05/2017 15:50:12 1988815 Link 1 |
They played the exact same last year before the All Ireland final. They'll still be there or thereabouts.

A tactical shambles by Sligo, modern day managers with arms folded, ear pieces, emotionless, playing to the system, yet when you play with a full on gale you must play full press. Sligo didn't & paid the price, unbelievable to watch. What a fantastic game by Paddy Durcan & as usual from Colm Boyle. moc.dna (Galway) - Posts: 1212 - 21/05/2017 16:09:04 1988823 Link 1 |
