Very likely that Kildare will go up as they only need one win. In terms of 2nd while we may be favourites Meath are the danger. Slightly easier run in for them and if we finish level on points they will go up on head to head. I hope we don't regret losing by a point to the Royals in Navan. Ever since Enniskillen in round 2 we have missed Damien Comer as a key target man particularly for tricky away games. Going to be missing in Newry next Sunday so hopefully others step up. We have plenty of forward options but many are of similar type in terms of style. kiloughter (Galway) - Posts: 1946 - 20/03/2017 09:34:49 1968928 Link 0 |
What is the deciding factor for position in table obviously after points gained? eamonkeown (Fermanagh) - Posts: 23 - 20/03/2017 10:16:58 1968949 Link 0 |

Anyone in Kildare thinking we are already up would be a fool, there's a massive game against Clare next week and we know who came out on top last time we played. The positives are there and we are playing in Newbridge which should give us a slight edge. I wouldn't fancy going to salthill needing a win. Apart from a late goal against Derry there's been a good consistency and confidence about us this year- hopefully that continues.

If 2 teams finish on the same points head-to-head is used, if 3 or more finish on the same points scoring difference is used. This applies even if 1 team has beaten 2 other sides it finished equal on points with.

I also taught it was head to head but radio yesterday was under the impression it's score difference.Brenda Cummins kept on about it and the chap that presents Sunday sport. Kc77 (Meath) - Posts: 36 - 20/03/2017 18:05:34 1969232 Link 0 |
Unless the system has changed Kc77, then it's head to head when two teams finish level on points. If Three or more then it's decided by scoring difference.

Of course will accept whatever yardstick now in situe (and I think ye are right that it is head to head) personally I think it should always be scoring difference for one reason and one reason only...it promotes attacking football. However the rules are such you just have to accept them. Hopefully it won't come to it from our perspective but think there will be one or two twists and turns yet. In fairness league more intriguing than championship for most teams. kiloughter (Galway) - Posts: 1946 - 20/03/2017 21:24:48 1969311 Link 0 |
Kildare look dead certs now for promotion and I fancy Meath to make a big drive for that other spot but I believe whoever comes up will be competitive next year in Div 1. Galway and Kildare have been going in the right direction a couple of years now and with Mc Entee at the helm in Meath I can only see them improving too. I would love to see a system were 4 teams went down and 4 promoted each year,it would lessen the gap between divisions and make every game more important. You make a very good point about increasing the amount of teams who go up and down,

i think of all the teams in Div 2 Galway are the most likely to be able to step up and stay up AnBuachaillGlas (Fermanagh) - Posts: 287 - 24/03/2017 16:28:23 1970751 Link 0 |
Agree AnBuachaillGlas 10 league games would be great. There is little interest in the early rounds of the Championship, with the possible exception of the Ulster Championship.Ideally a home and away league system would best. With 7 games the league is just getting going when it's over.

It also looks like you are headed for div 1 ... might not be the best thing for u for next year ... maybe a year down the line ... anyway we will never see home and away leave the season length doesn't permit it ... but I agree that the league only gets going and you have the nonsense of last year div 2 that had 4 teams finish joint 4th with Armagh relegated on points diff and fermanagh listed 4th who Armagh beat ... 10 matches would leave daylight between finishing places

Very confident ..we won't doing celebratory laps if we loose anyway ..you reckon fermanagh would blow division 1 and not get hammering setting them back years no?
