For sure this is what results in rucks and the player throwing the ball in both codes as he can not get a hand free. Simple solution. Second man in to tackle penalized. The first player must be out of the play before a second tackle allowed. I know can hear it too hard to implement. Not really if two players going for the same ball there should be only two opposing players challenging.

Well said. The rubbish we hear from spectators and players who couldn't even find a copy of the rulebook let alone know it inside out. I'm a ref and I've had some classics quoted at me. "The square ball rule is gone ref", "Not being 13m away is a throw ball and not a free kick", "you can't change the ball from one hand to the other".

It absolutely is a skill. Watch someone new to football and you'll see that it is

Some of the rules the tried over the Nation al League were ridiculous. The offensive mark was bizarre. A guy fields a ball and hey presto it becomes a point. Hope we don't see that again. avonali (Dublin) - Posts: 1974 - 18/07/2019 18:11:20 2212859 Link 4 |
Its now a throw ball on the 20 meter line. It hasnt been a free for years. Again another case of a rule no being known. How many times was the Clare keeper warned though? The umpire didnt just call the ref in for it after no warning. Is the goalie totally absolved of any wrong doing? I would say he was warned that the next time he stepped well outside the small square the ref would be called in and a 65m free awarded. daytona11 (Kildare) - Posts: 4012 - 18/07/2019 18:32:06 2212866 Link 0 |
Apologies, I mis-typed. Dragging a man down is a black card, whereas dragging a man BACK by his jersey or arm is a noting infraction/yellow despite being equally as cynical.

Surely you have to have some line that the goalkeeper has to hit his pick out from, or he would just carry it up the field as far as he likes? Lots of keepers hit the ball outside the small square but will usually throw it up from inside the square.

Where else would you get it, in all fairness.

A neutral game been played in your home county. How unlucky is that having to play a neutral game at home. EDH (Galway) - Posts: 367 - 18/07/2019 19:55:06 2212896 Link 3 |
Yea, I think its the only time it was pulled on live TV anyway! Some time to introduce a flavor for the rule!

Another couple of rules that are ridiculous: PK57 (Louth) - Posts: 1653 - 19/07/2019 07:10:06 2213020 Link 1 |
you are correct and the throw ball can be even more advantageous than the free puck. We played wexford in O'Connor Park a number of years ago (probably 10 years now so im thinking it was the 2009 national league meeting or possibly the first round of leinster. the ref called the keeper for stepping outside the box during the puck-out and i have no idea how the ref even saw it because the umpires werent the ones that called it as far as i could see. The ball was thrown in on the 13 yard line and (my memory may not be correct here) big Joe Bergin pulled timber like a man possessed, beating the wexford man to the ball and driving it straight into the bottom corner of the wexford net. Lovely goal and im pretty sure it was the driving force of the win that day for us. Wexford players and supporters were less than happy (and i couldnt really blame them).

Switching hands- imagine getting a gaol disallowed because you switched hands, there would be uproar RealTalk101 (Meath) - Posts: 21 - 19/07/2019 10:21:27 2213068 Link 0 |
ha ha. so you agree that it should be based on games. I'm not sure if this is a rule or if it's just the interpretation by the refs but it's to do with a player being fouled whilst an advantage is in progress. What currently happens is that the ref brings it back for the original free. I mentioned this on herea few years ago when the advantage rule was first introduced to GAA and some people said i was wrong (that refs didn't bring it back). but they are still doing it. Time to stop this practice. The foot block ???? . Why have a foul for that ?? s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 19/07/2019 10:36:49 2213074 Link 0 |
I'd agree to something like this but I also find as a defender over the years that often times you get called for a foul when you are legitimately trying to tackle. It would be very frustrating some days where you use your technique and successfully tackle, 10 minutes later you use the same technique and get called for a foul. I understand we want to encourage attacking play but you also want to see defenders given a chance to actually defend. But I do agree it's very unfair on lads when they're surrounded and not a hope of getting a hand free to release the ball. How are you overcarrying if you're literally not able to release your arms? A big pet peeve of mine is charging not being consistently called. I was once told I "rugby tackled" a fella for standing my ground and trying to hold him up as he charged straight into me.
