Galway Vs Cavan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I don't think Galway are going to repeat their league form from last year due to the fact they are missing a few key players for the early stage of the league. But they will not be relegated, I see them coming 3rd or 4th in the group; but don't rule them out getting to the final. Cavan are a hard to predict at this stage of the year; with a few new decent players in the team and new manager who will be there to get the best out of the team; from history it seems he will go for a more of an attacking game. Think this one will end a draw, Should be quite a decent match.

Might put a bet on that draw oakleafersir!

We are seriously depleted with injuries and corofin being unavailable this will be tough. In recent history Cavan have a great track record against us. I think we should be aiming for the final again but if be more than happy if we retained our div1 status

Very hard one to call!

You'd have to make Galway favourites but I think it'll be a close match and would give ourselves every chance.

We certainly don't have ambitions of reaching the final and would take your hand off if you offered us survival in Division 1 now. If we're to stay up, this is one game we will probably need something from.

I'm backing Cavan to win. They have everyone bar Gearoid McKiernan fit for this. Galway, on the other hand, have multiple injuries. It will be scrappy in Salthill which may suit Cavan better than Tuam. Breffni by 2.

Hard to disagree with this. We are crippled with injuries and a few key Corofin players out with the all Ireland club semi final in Mid Feb. Could be a tough day for us as the likely championship starting half back line out plus many other key players.

Galway were poor vs Ros yesterday but hopefully its just a blip. Imagine they will focus hard in training this week and be ready and firing come sunday. Tribes by 3.

Galway by my count could be missing about 18 squad members. 9 or 10 of those you could class as probable starters later in the year. One or two might make it if they pass fitness tests.

I'm not sure if Cavan are missing anyone but they might be worth a bet.

Cavan just missing Gearoid McKiernan who won't be back for another while yet.

Its very important to our development that we stay in Div.1. With that in mind its vital that we win this one although after yesterday I wouldn't be too optimistic. We only have 2 other home games and one of those is against Kerry.

Would be expecting Cavan to come away with the spoils in this one.

By my count those 100% unavailable are

Damien Comer
Eamon Brannigan
John Daly
Paul Conroy
Adrian Varley
Bernard Power
Ian Burke
Liam Silke
Dylan Wall
Michael Farragher
Kieran Molloy
Jason Leonard

With injury doubts over

Declan Kyne
Johnny Heaney
Cillian McDaid
Michael Daly

A couple of the bottom group might make the Cavan game if they pass fitness tests.

I didn't even count the three An Spideal lads and Fiontain O'Curraoin. Not sure what their status is currently.

Sorry had to cook the dinner, Eamon Brannigan and Barry Mc Hugh bring that up to 17 and I'm possibly missing one or two still.

More than half of that list aren't first choice players. Biggest losses are Comer,Burke and Silke. Galway who reached the Div 1 final last year should have enough to beat Cavan at home if not its time to worry about the that trap door.

Of course not. That's fairly obvious. But I would expect somewhere between 8 to 11 from that list to be starters come the championship.
