If tipp beat Cavan then we have to draw or win against cork to go up because if we lost to cork and tipp win and then down beat tipp we are all on 9 points and we have the worst scoring difference so tipp and Cavan would go up..lots to play for yet in division 2..I'm thinking Meath will survive with louth and down goin to division three. You add kildare Armagh Donegal or mayo to division two next year and its a place I wouldn't want to be

Thats part of the problem with these arrangements because if these were the last round of 7 that were being played all at the same time, Cavan would know exactly what was required. In the present scenario they have to take the draw and then Tipperary know that they have to beat Down and they qualify and there is no ifs and buts. Play the two outstanding games first then both Cavan and Tipperary know exactly what is required and thats much fairer? Having said all of that, as a Meath man I would swap the Cavan situation for ours any day of the week!!!! ROYALOPTIMIST (Meath) - Posts: 179 - 21/03/2018 20:14:44 2086766 Link 0 |
Tipp v Down will be played next weekend April 1st. If they are still in the promotion picture then the final will be pushed back to April 7th. ispeakwisdom (Roscommon) - Posts: 2487 - 21/03/2018 20:46:40 2086777 Link 0 |
I didnt hear anybody blame Tipperary if Meath are relegated. Our performances especially in latter stages of league simply not good enough. Abit harsh really. I think what people are saying is that the situation is farcial and unfair on teams, players and counties. Typical if the GAA. A GAA solution to a problem! Correct. No one in Meath will blame anybody but ourselves if we are relegated and certainly not Tipperary as its not their fault they find themselves in this situation. It also has some implications for teams in the promotion race so it affects more than Meath. ROYALOPTIMIST (Meath) - Posts: 179 - 21/03/2018 22:06:11 2086810 Link 1 |
This is the national league - the GAA officially condoning the non fulfilment of fixtures is an unwelcome development. consider the level of preparation teams put in whether they are in the running for something or not, these are the flagship teams in their respective countries. This represents an unwelcome precedent and is especially dangerous for weaker counties (esp Div4) whereby the underlying message is it doesn't matter whether ye fulfil your programme. (It should be irrelevant whether the counties wish to meet the fixture as the league should be preeminent) Bainisteoir (National) - Posts: 534 - 21/03/2018 22:46:41 2086820 Link 0 |
It's some joke alright and so disrespectful to all the teams in Division 2. I think earlier in the week it was suggested that if Tipp were promoted at the weekend and Meath were relegated the GAA wouldn't bother having the game between Down and Tipp. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 22/03/2018 01:56:12 2086844 Link 0 |
But Roscommon beat both teams so do they not go up regardless? and if Tipp win do Tipp not go up regardless in second place as they beat Cavan on the head to head? Or am I totally wrong on that? Can anyone advise on this with 100% certainty? tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 22/03/2018 11:51:12 2086911 Link 0 |
Yes. With 100% certainty, if more than 2 teams finish level on points, then it comes down to score difference. It doesn't matter who beat who.

if 3 or more are level NONE of the head to head results count.

It appears head to head only comes into play when two teams are on the same points (if Wikipedia is to be believed) You could have the case where Roscommon don't go up despite beating Tipp and Cavan, I don't think In Tipp's wildest dreams did they think they'd be in this situation. Cavan will have plenty of motivation however and will certainly be warm favs tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 22/03/2018 12:04:22 2086922 Link 0 |
The way its looking, its a place Meath would love to be

Do not see any Meath poster looking to blame Tipp, where do you see that?

The game between Meath and Down even prior to this fixture farce was always going to be a winner takes all affair. Meath by 2 and to easily account for Louth (sorry Louth lads) Kiwiq (Kildare) - Posts: 38 - 23/03/2018 04:27:25 2087158 Link 0 |
Down v Tipp could have been played last Monday in Newry - it was a bank holiday in the 6 counties cuchulainn35 (Armagh) - Posts: 1664 - 23/03/2018 09:13:46 2087172 Link 0 |
It is a real pity that tg4 aren't showing one of these division 2 games instead of a dead rubber game of dublin vs monaghan. ros1 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1211 - 24/03/2018 11:04:42 2087382 Link 3 |
They should be showing Cavan vs tipp in what should be a good game with a good atmosphere.. dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1036 - 24/03/2018 12:16:50 2087397 Link 0 |
