Also were people supposed to go out on dangerous roads in Westmeath ( dunno what Kildare was like weather wise?) in order to get to Navan.

Navan being playable was irrelevant, why would you make players, players families, and club supporters travel from Mullingar and surrounding areas which was under a blanket of snow. The right call was made, if someone was killed in an accident on what is already a dangerous road from Mullingar to Kells, would it have been worth it?? The bigger question is why the Leinster championship couldn't be over by the last week of November.

I am going to stick with my prediction. Looking forward to a good game and the snow stays away.

Great game. Well done Moorefield. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13693 - 17/12/2017 15:36:35 2065426 Link 1 |
Well done to Moorefield ! They just never give up. St.Conleth (Kildare) - Posts: 1696 - 17/12/2017 15:39:18 2065427 Link 0 |
Kicking the ball away at the end must be one of the stupidest thing ever seen on a football field; giving away 10 yds further out the field is irrelevant but from there was absurd. And two suicidal passes from defence when Lomans were well in control. Have to hand it to Moorefreld tho; great heart to come back, and that man Sweeney never stopped driving them on. Credit to both teams, great game befair (Down) - Posts: 237 - 17/12/2017 15:59:40 2065430 Link 1 |
Some game in fairness. Lomans lost their discipline and made silly mistakes at the end. Gifted Moorefield the goal and they just went into panic mode thereafter. Sharry going off on a second yellow, was a blow too. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2752 - 17/12/2017 16:31:11 2065434 Link 0 |
Time was up before last point was scored. Lomans should be entitled to a replay. But will it happen no maroonkingdom (Westmeath) - Posts: 41 - 17/12/2017 16:45:36 2065439 Link 1 |
5 minutes added time plus whatever the ref decides. Lomans player kicking the ball back probably added an extra minute. In fairness Lomans looked to be settling for a draw at the end but Moorefield drove on for the win.

You seem to struggle with the definition of the phrase "at least". Lomans have no one to blame. The game was there for the winning and Moorefield took it. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13693 - 17/12/2017 17:50:09 2065450 Link 2 |
Totally disagree. The Moorefield player encroached with the ball first and wasn't punished. Yet when the lomans guy moved it back he was penalised and ball moved further forwards. What's the difference ? Anyways the kick wasn't scored directly and as it was past 6 mins of injury time when 5 were indicated the referee should have blown then.

A masterclass in capitulation from Loman's I am afraid. I do not understand why the blanket was not immediately implemented when Sharry went off. They will be sick in Mullingar tonight and they will be wondering whether they will have a better chance of winning a Leinster club championship. The defense looked shaky throughout esp when delivering the ball so that hand pass in injury time was true to form. One thing I will say is that the final free was at least 5 yards forward from where it was supposed to be. Silly from the Loman's player to move the ball but he was correct in that the free was further back and that was down to poor officiating. In saying that Loman's had plenty back to deal with the situation but somehow managed to leave the Moorefield player free to slot the winning score. Clear sign that their nerve was gone. panamasam (Australia) - Posts: 2771 - 17/12/2017 18:48:14 2065458 Link 0 |

If there was an additional 15 minutes of stoppages within injury time then yes 20 minutes would be applicable. However there wasn't so he didn't play 20 minutes yesterday. It really isn't that hard. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13693 - 18/12/2017 08:08:13 2065488 Link 1 |
What a game for the neutral fan in Portlaoise yesterday. Moorefield never gave up especially 37 year old Ronan Sweeney who took the fight to St Loman's throughout. There in the second half as Moorefield were six points adrift, a few questionable decisions went against Sweeney but he kept his cool and plugged away when he could've easily dropped the head. You have to feel sorry for St Loman's but they have only themselves to blame for not closing out the contest. Congratulations Moorefield and commiserations to Loman's. gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 18/12/2017 11:04:44 2065496 Link 1 |
I know its only sport but I cant imagine what its like to be a Lomans player after yesterday! Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1410 - 18/12/2017 11:27:41 2065500 Link 1 |
Lomans got what they deserved. They tried to be to clever wasting time and throwing the ball back for the free. Lomans fans complaining about the ref need to have another look at the game. I remember Sweeney picking up a ball in the 2nd half and get a shoulder straight in the face and lomans actually got a line ball from it. Number 11 sticking his tongue out and pointing at the crowd should feel embarrassed today. wd45 (Westmeath) - Posts: 211 - 18/12/2017 11:37:03 2065501 Link 1 |
A Westmeath fan queuing up to have a pop at St Loman's players. Cop yourself on. Number 11 was probably the best player on the pitch. He was after kicking a brilliant point and turned to the crowd to celebrate. His marker arguably should have been sent off beforehand for raising the fist twice at a Loman's player. It was a total collapse from Loman's but they can hold their heads up high as they've done Westmeath proud.

He had a good 10 mins. If your going to be show boating and pointing out to the crowd you have to make sure you win the game. You look foolish when you do it and then lose. I didn't see much sign of him in the last 10 mins when it mattered. wd45 (Westmeath) - Posts: 211 - 18/12/2017 11:58:53 2065504 Link 1 |
