Breffni holds about 25000. It was pretty full but I was very central in the terrace and there was some space. I'd say 21000 or thereabouts."
Very large crowd in Breffni Park - I would think at least 20,000 were there yesterday.

Excellent atmosphere also.

Thats some crowd for a league game made up in the majority by Dubs, the game is really thriving in the capitol i can remember league games back in 2013, when it was just me and my old man in McGraths and the back lounge closed off, you cant get near the place these days. Hopefully what we have sowed in these years can be reaped in the years ahead.

It does beg the question on a crowd like last night would a 25k stadium in Templeouge meet demand, especially hwne you consider the night that was in it.

The username exactly my point regarding the spawell model.
we should be looking at 5 years down the line upping support levels all the time not reducing it but sure when I gave them point's I was labelled anti Southside haha
croke park works for the county as a whole it has the best infrastructures you will get and gives the opportunity to continue to grow the interest levels

its not our own stadium though but i see what your saying..30k stadium or 40k prob best solution?...we have to bear in mind that the championship structure may change so you could be getting pretty significant crowds if we got a more consistently competitive championship

I think 25k is too small for football to be honest mate, as last night illustrated, I'd say there were over 25k Dubs there last night on the worst night of the year for weather, for a game that was televised.

We do have a tendency to just look at it through a footballing lense, would be perfect for hurling. But a 25k stadium I don't think would be enough for league or early championship games these days for football.

I have mixed emotions myself, I like the thought of having our very own bear pit, that sides would find it difficult to play in, recreating the atmosphere that we had in Kilkenny last year would be something special. I'm not to bothered where it is, as long as their are transport links, it needs to be on a rail or Lucas line, I don't think driving is enough. A city centre location would be ideal. A site like Dalymount or Tolka Park would be ideal, if those sites could be redeveloped or we went into partnership with Shels or Bohs and built a ground from scratch 35k.

I would be in favour of the Spawell if was accessible by Lucas and rail, but it's needs to be 35k, anything lower and the footballers will always play in a Croker, neither the county board or the GAA will let the cash cow slip from their grasp.

8000 in castleblaney for Monaghan v Cavan.

Think Clones would've drawn an even bigger crowd.

Seems a bit mad playing this in Tralee with 12k capacity doesn't Killarney hold a bigger crowd.

Seems a bit short sighted given the demand.

Yes tickets on sale has been very hush hush bar been announced at Kerry co board meeting .. Important to keep down the amount of those dubs down !!
Overall it's madness though , if it was on in Killarney there would be over 20,000 there on the Sunday .so much for GAA been money mad , looks like they could be turning down 100-150k by having it in the smaller venue of Tralee .

Two things here.

When was the last time a fixture was sold out more than a month in Advance?? ..never?..Just shows the pulling power of this clash.

Surely considering the already evident demand plus thousands of others who werent aware that tickets were on sale could it not be moved to Killarney on the Sunday , it would draw a bumper crowd of 20,000 plus.

If there is one thing I dislike about this era of Dublin dominance, its our uneducated, idiotic fools that run our (albeit, unofficial) social media accounts on facebook. The sense of entitlement would make you cringe beyond belief. I absolutely went through one of them the other day who had the audacity to suggest Kerry county board where being "greedy f*****s" for putting a 5 euro charge on u16's when they didn't do it for the Mayo fans last Saturday , That particular post was removed sharpish after they where put in their place by facts.

The reason there is a 5 euro charge is simply the law of demand versus supply. There is more demand than the supply can cater for, That's why this game is an all ticket affair. That's why under 16s have to buy a ticket for a 5r. Kerry county board greedy ? Well, On what planet would a county board move a game where they stand to receive a lot of revenue from 25-30,000 people going to a game, to a much smaller venue with less than half that capacity ? In what logical way does that make any sense ? How would Kerry CB benefit from that decision, It doesn't. It defies logic

Fact of the matter here is that the TV right of the Allianz league are with Eirsport and TG4, It transpired that Eirsport won the right to show the game live, They can only show live Allianz league action on a Saturday evening. Hence why the game was moved to the Saturday evening. Because of the time of year, floodlights will be needed and there are none in Killarney so there was no alternative but to move the game to Tralee. That's the reason behind the venue. No greed on the Kerry county board who stand to lose 150,000 euro cause of this.

As for the gobshite Dublin fans who booked Killarney assuming that's where it would be played, Well, the "provisional" fixtures for the league came out on the 13th of September, In the article it said that ALL venues, times and dates are not confirmed and subject to change. It was only on the 22nd of November, a full 10 weeks later, that the fixtures, venues, times and dates where confirmed, and from day one of them being confirmed the game was penciled in for Tralee.

Its not Dublin as Hill16army and DublinGAA on facebook who are being put out here, Its Kerry I feel sorry for.

No.

It can't

Eirsport picked this as one of the games they want to cover, the only time they are given is 7pm on a Saturday evening, bearing in mind the time of year, floodlights will be needed, there are none in killarney, which is why the game is set for Tralee.
