Spawell site for Dublin Gaa?

Replying To Kurt_Angle:  "Bear in mind there is no public transport in the area nor likely to be...

That's absolute nonsense! The Spawell is serviced by bus routes 54A, 65, 65B, 150 and165. Its not fantastic but far from "no public transport". The Luas will drop you a 45 minute walk away. Again, not great but, for perspective, roughly twice the distance from the DART and Luas to Croke Park.

Note the Tallaght exit of the M50 is a disaster zone...

Speaking as someone who passes that exit twice daily, its far from the worst exit and far from a "disaster". You're also (I assume) considering it at peak rush hour times and its highly unlikely any major game played at the Spawell will be anytime close to rush hour. The M50 hosts a little over 120,000 cars daily. Is your projection of 5,000+ cars (about 4%) going to make a significant difference?

There are effectively 4 ways to the Spawell complex - from the north, south, east and west. North / south has probably the best facility in the country for accessing the area, the M50. West has the Tallaght Road, which is 3 lanes wide. East has the Templeogue Road, also 3 lanes wide. Is it fair to argue that this site could be the best available in terms of access infrastructure in the county, possibly in the country?

...streaming in onto a slip road and controlled roundabout that allows about 6 cars through at a time...

Have our ever actually taken exit 11 heading southbound? Its a slip road with no traffic lights that allows access, providing the Tallaght Road (east of the M50) allows it. The "controlled roundabout" argument is completely erroneous.

I don't think for a second that traffic will not be an issue but I think the issues are being greatly exaggerated. There are loads of stadia across the country that have access issues - PUC, Gaelic Grounds, Casement Park, Salthill, etc. I would argue there are several stadia with greater access problems. Are there many with better access facilities? I'd like to hear which ones."
Rubbish, if you use it daily exiting the M50 going Northbound at the top of the slip there are three lanes - one left only and two straight/right with those things called traffic lights and if all six cars get through they will run into the second set of lights. If you are coming from the Northside exiting you have a free run that is until you hit the Bus lane and the traffic backed up which when busy won't allow you to filter in. And just to compound the problems there are pedestrian lights just before and just after the Spawell roundabout. If your going to rubbish an argument do so with a little bit more honesty.

Kurt....please STOP;...this is the internet....talking sense has been banned and since we are in the Age of Trump facts do not count!!"
It is the internet and lies/dishonest cut both ways, the reason for a Trump is because of the dishonesty of the opposition ditto here. If you don't understand the infrastructure around the area then why voice a negative opinion on those that do? I didn't say the stadium shouldn't be built BTW (are reading this Kurt!) - you really should read what people post and not quote second hand, which is the second reason why we are all scratching our heads about Trump.

People know that Clondalkin.

Do you think that just because the games will not be at peak times that there will not be major traffic issues when the vast majority of people will be travelling by car to the game?

People are just anticipating the problems that may be there in having a 25k stadium in a place with inadequate public transport to the area.

Like I've said previously, the location for the stadium is not great, maybe it's the best available but that doesn't mean it is a particularly great location. When spending a huge amount of money it's disheartening when the seemingly best option is a poor one. Overall the project is a disappointing one.

Why do they need to build it anyway?
is it as clondalkin originally used the one simple fact to say that it's a ground of our own and get country guys off our back?
As at the moment croke park suits Dublin, the gaa and other counties far more having Dublin playing league games there.
financially it works for all, accessible wise it work's for both dublin and opposing counties better and it has capacity that with a marketing drive allows attendance figures to grow and makes use of one of the best stadiums in europe at a time when it would lie idle for 7 or 8 months almost.

Mes n Hill I'm hearing what your saying but what I still can't get my head around is you'd rather them not build it, surely it's "I don't agree with its location and all that but build the staduim not matter what"?

Because it doesn't have to be built.

If Dublin were massively in need of a stadium then I could see the argument for just building a stadium anywhere the land was available.

Seeing as there is not an urgent need for a stadium then I think it is quite foolish to spend a shed load of cash on a stadium in a substandard location.
Dublin have gotten to where we are currently with the GAA in a very healthy state by aiming for the best, I'd rather they did the same in this instance instead of settling for below average.

Reports today saying the spawell deal will be concluded in March. No plans for a stadium apparently, looks like they're building a centre of excellence.

It's an interesting development on the stadium, I wonder did the GAA step in to try and keep Dublin in Croke Park.

If a new ground isn't built here, I doubt it ever will be and Croker will be home.

Does anyone know if the Dublin County Board went ahead with the transaction?

The latest press reports are from March 2017 and say they expect a deal to be concluded. As far as I can see.
