Things are getting tight now and Mayo have two more Ulster teams left to play so all is not lost for Cavan, who finally realised that Mc Keirnans influence around mid-field was a major factor in getting to Div 1 in the first place.
The Monaghan, Roscommon game was a good competitive game in the first half, but they did not come out in the second half. The most pleasing thing for us was the continued improvement in attack especially Mc Carron, who seems to have good leadership qualities to go with his ability. Dessie Ward was very good today on his first start at this level (also had an impressive cameo last time out). That sudden injection of pace he and O Connell bring to the attack will help break down the modern defensive systems.
Roscommon are a team devoid of confidence, in the first half both teams had two goal chances, we went for ours and were saved, they turned one down opting for the point and fluffed the other. This time last year they would have buried at least one. Most Monaghan supporters were concerned that Ros would target this one with all they had in an effort to stay up, dare I say it they were too nice. The first half was a shoot out and it seemed that they were just giving it a lash with no real belief that they could win it, they were a bit naïve defensively allowing Mc Manus (who looked laboured) one on one inside on numerous occasions. They need a win and I hope they get it because they have good footballers.
Next week will decide both our and Donegal's league campaigns with the winner targeting a final spot (Kerry to beat Tyrone in the last round). We will take Dublin (already qualified by then) in Clones. Love this Carlsberg!!!
