Aidan Walsh a massive plus imo, better footballer than he is a hurler imo.

Cork may of regressed but they are still better than a lot of the muck in Div 2 (Fermanagh, Kildare, Meath, Derry).

i wouldnt describe derry as muck - i know they have been awful in the championship in recent years, but they were for a long time consistantly playing divsion 1 football. They are the real dark horses in this division.

I don't expect to hear your voice in PT this spring so, be it cheering or criticising, with notions like that.....

In fairness it's hard to see why cork wouldn't go back up they finished level on points last year with mayo donegal and monaghan were unlucky to go down n the end
I'd say galway shud go up with them too

Battle to avoid relegation might be more interesting in this division

There is little to no difference between the standard of the top 2-3 teams in Div 2 and the bottom 2-3teams in Div 1 and that can be shown by the history of the last couple of years. I do concur with a previous poster that a poor Ref decision black cards and all may decide who goes up as it did last year(I do have sympathy with Refs in the way new rules are being added on in such a way that it is becoming almost impossible to officiate) It will indeed be interesting to see who drops from Div 2 and Div 1. Calling any team/teams muck is silly/stupid and is a reflection on the poster. All teams put in huge efforts with some having significantly more resources than others. After all it is a game of football /sport and folk should not forget that.

Show me where I called any team muck
Simply stated I expect relegation battle to b more interesting n division 2 than promotion i do think cork and galway will go up

It is interesting to see so many new. "Meath" support on this forum lately, always seem to be criticism and down right ignorance of county. All since Andy took over

Little or nothing in this competition. I believe that Meath are going to do really well this year. Division 2 is well within their reach. Galway possibly will be the team that could stop them. I think Cork simply aren't good enough despite the fact that they have dropped down a division. They are good enough to get promoted, but a lot will depend on their away form.

It is difficult for most teams to get a run of form over seven League games. If the fixtures situation could be sorted out to everyone's satisfaction,(some hope)I would love to see a home and away League format.
If a team loses away they can look forward to reversing that result at home.
More games more competition. Winner takes all with no semi finals or final. Take those two games out, get rid of the pre season tournaments and the GAA would only have two extra fixtures for each team to insert into the calendar.

After watching Derry tonite in the McKenna cup I would worry about them staying in div 2. S I know it was only the McKenna cup but Derry were extremely poor. They had 8-9 players who will prob start next week. Their forward line tonite included Lynch,Lynn,Kielt,McGuckian,Bell. They didn't seem to have any kind of game plan, no pace. Another very concerning aspect is Derrys overall lack of fitness. Mark lynch needs to work on his fitness and lead by example as captain. James kielt seems happy to tap over a few frees. I understand this is a pre season comp and I'm sure Derry will improve but they are 7 days away from the start of the league. This isn't a Derry bashing post, just observations from tonite game.

I would not read too much into tonight's final. Yes, Derry did not play well but Barton is trying to to bleed new young experienced players into the team. Derry lost 10 players from last season, now tell me how many counties in Ireland could cope with the loss of that number of players. We have the Slaughtneil contingent to return plus the 3 or 4 which are currently injured. This is not excuses but fact. Tyrone are a long way ahead of Derry at present but there is no team in Division 2 at that level. We are in a division that will be competitive and no team will fear their opponent. If we want to push for promotion we must win our home games.

Agree losing that amount of players is difficult (I believe they left because Barton wanted to increase the training, they walked away, don't need players in the squad like that), and the S'neil players will help. Also your run if fixtures is kind, Clare and Down at home in the first 3 games. However I don't feel Derry will be close to promotion, they were doing the exact same thing as last year, running into tackles, conceding far to much and a lack of fitness. As I said it's only the McKenna cup and personal will come back but it will be a worry for Barton and the players.

Very true, however I cannot for the life of me why Year after Year players keep walking away from the county panel. I understand work commitments etc plus the demands of senior county managers re: training but how can we seriously make progress. The Derry jersey means nothing these days. We need to put the pride back into the jersey again. The Tyrone players have pride in the jersey and want to play for the county, opposite is happening in Derry. If Jim Gavin, Mickey Harte etc cane to manage Derry the same problems would exist. We have the players but the clubs don't respect the county. The root of the problem in Derry.
