Replying To TheWestIsAwake:  "I really don't know where you optimism comes from, most of your fellow Meath men aren't surprised.

I'm expecting a backlash next week though. Galway 5-15 have a lot of talent and there's good players coming from the bench, 1-4 is still a worry though and needs work."
I'd say 99% of them were shocked to lose to Down after Derry game. But that's sport unpredictable. Looking forward to Sunday. Expect a few changes

Will Reilly and Newman be playing for Meath sunday? Comer will probably not start for Galway after not featuring at all last weekend

Not shocked at all losing to them. Why would we expect to beat anyone after the Kildare performance.

A great hard tough game between two counties that still try to play football the way it should be played, fantastic scores tenacious defending , hard hits and in bad weather. Hard luck to Galway in fairness a draw would have been a fair result, however I am sure you will let us have this one. I do hope we meet in croke park in division 2 final. You have some fantastic players. Well done to all. Meath had a kick but also had harnan and Tobin back which sured up defense

you say that as if you are proud, The fact you are still trying to play football 'the way it should played' is what will stop traditionally strong counties like yourselves progressing, moving with the times and competing against the very best teams on the big days again. The best teams don't always play traditionall brilliant football, the top teams adapt to different situations and styles of play of which there are more than one in 2017. Stubborn reluctance to do what Dublin had to do in 2011 and adapt a different approach means hammerings against the Dubs will continue for many many years to come because you don't have the players to go toe to toe. You have to try and do a Donegal and **** your tradition and pride for a while and concentrate on becoming competitive against the top teams again of which Galway (and all division 2 teams with the greatest of respect) are not one. You almost blew it again today.. a goal in the last few minutes was the difference between a classic hs meath fan meltdown and the two points you guys tried so hard to throw away in the second half today, the only thing yourselves and mayo seem to have in common, you get into winning positions and find new ways to lose. You got the rub of the green today. Fair play but it covers an unreal amount of cracks..

Hate to say it you're mostly right but let us have this moment. It's rare walking from a Meath game feeling good. Relegation concerns eased a bit for now.

Totally disagree on match today. The goal which was perfectly lined up by O'Sullivan (who is fastly becoming a top 10 player ) was superb, we were 4 points up at HT with wind assist, Galway had wind in second half, if I'm honest with the breeze that was blowing I didn't think 4 was enough, actually if I were to have a criticism of Meath today it would be their first half performance, 20 minutes of complete dominance with the wind and didn't kick on as much as they should have. Galway with wind were always going to close the gap. No second half meltdown, actually probably better in second half than first.

What we got today was a display of guts and determination and passion, that will do me just fine today. We beat the reigning Connacht champions and favourites for promotion to Division 1 when under real pressure to get a result, again that will do me just fine for today. We found a goal when we needed one and didn't collapse when 3 points down against the wind with 10 minutes to play but managed 1-2 to no reply instead, again that will do me just fine today. We are not trying to paper over cracks we are trying to fill them and progress, today was a step in the right direction but must be followed up on and consistency delivered, call me a glass half full guy if you will but after driving from Donegal to Newry to watch a poor performance last weekend I was greatly heartened and happy driving home from Navan after witnessing today's game. Our progress won't be hastened by buckets of cash or a back room team big enough to fill a 747 but will take hard work, effort and patience and I have no doubt that such attributes are being implemented at this time, we have to walk before we can run and performances like today make me believe we can somewhat improve our overall standing in the short to medium term.

Well said, I think that is what Meath supporters are looking for at the moment. Nobodys getting carried away, its just a step in right direction, nothing more than that

Yep. Steps in right direction. No more no less. One game at a time. Next step consistency.

Exactly all we want is lads who look like they give a sh**e about putting the jersey on if they're not good enough fair enough but that's the minimum requirement I don't doubt they do care just half the time it doesn't look it
