All depends on what part of the county you are from. Seems to be a strong dislike for Cavan and Tyrone though from most people in the county.

Is Tyrone and Armagh the bitterest rivalry? Why is it so bitter? I was at the Ulster Final replay in Croker in 2005 , small enough crowd, and there was fair tension between some supporters. But for the All Ireland semi that year it made for an unbelievable atmosphere. Score for score each set of supporters seem to stand up to remind their neighbours! C'mon Tyrone, C'mon Tyrone, C'mon Tyrone, C'mon. Apologies to Armagh people, I forget their chant. The hairs stood up on the back of my neck. On the pitch there was hard hitting and great football. Best atmosphere and best game I was ever at. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7344 - 30/12/2016 19:55:12 1942393 Link 1 |
A lot depends on the size of the county, and which code they are stronger in streaker (Galway) - Posts: 497 - 30/12/2016 20:06:40 1942395 Link 1 |
Lads, I've always been under the impression that there's fierce bad blood between Offaly and Laois (in both codes?) is there much truth to that? extranjero (Wexford) - Posts: 375 - 30/12/2016 21:00:02 1942401 Link 0 |
Yeah. Also known as the Bogman's All-Ireland.

In hurling the biggest bordering rivalry has to be Tipperary v Cork closely followed by Tipp v Kilkenny, football hard to say, at the moment there is no love lost between Donegal and Tyrone, during the 2000s it would be Tyrone v Armagh, rivalry in football between bordering counties is as tough as a wet sponge nowadays as we have a 3 tier competition, you have Dublin, Donegal, Tyrone, Kerry, Mayo, Monaghan at the top table, then you have most of the rest in tier 2 with the weakest teams at the bottom so that along with the backdoor system have ruined bordering rivalry riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 30/12/2016 21:58:54 1942410 Link 1 |
the only rivalry the rebel boys have is with themselves or the county board....tipp v limerick or tipp v waterford are all superior to anything cork can offer....and no...this is no cork bash....but theres not many corkmen out there who will argue against me that cork are gone to the dogs.

ive always had a disliking for clare hurling ever since colin lynchs shameful and unforgiving actions v tony browne in 1998...flip side of the coin i have had the pleasure of meeting some of the finest supporters the country has to offer from the banner over the years...as a waterford man our main rival or biggest derby is the cork boys, tough opposition over the years juniorjudge (Waterford) - Posts: 383 - 30/12/2016 22:54:39 1942421 Link 0 |
But if (for example) Carlow and Wicklow are both struggling at the bottom of the ladder, why would their rivalry diminish? Or as another example, I doubt even when Dublin were at their weakest in history any Dubs ever considered Wicklow a rival, why would the fact there is now a huge gap between the teams change anything? Dickie your wrong there, trust me, kinnegad Ballinabrackey, clonard hill of down, there is pure hatred, I mean it gets ver nasty, Sam in Mullingar, give a prime example, well known shop in centre of town with huge banner across window with score and under it Meath me arse after our defeat in lsf. To quote a man heavily involved in wm gaa, he would rather have seen big Ian paisley lift Sam singing gstq than any Meath man. I have never seen or heard of many Westmeath people shout for Meath. Even this year after they beat Kildare it was all for dubs in second match. Now the Louth thing isn't as big neither believe it or not is dubs thing as there is grudgingly respect, bit Westmeath? Nahh thats bitter and at sometimes unsavoury

Lynch did more damage to Ollie Baker in fairness that day. Tony Brown, despite being crippled by Lynch, was in fine form versus Galway in the quarter final a short while later! MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13707 - 31/12/2016 10:37:51 1942453 Link 1 |

Very much so. The rivalry in hurling along the Galway Clare border is only fierce. A couple of Galway hurling managers got the sack and the no no of losing a championship match to Clare contributed in no small measure to their sackings!
