sure didnt sky once state that mayo in 2013 went on to win the all ireland -- D4 mentality or human error , id say human error

Gaffes do occur from time to time on tv --- just google Guy Goma (remember this one)

Dont recall if there are any soccer and rugby ones on rte maybe there are maybe there isnt , but then again i dont trawl rte news looking to pounce on every single error

more importantly yesterday well done to pat, brian, anthoney and all involved with the minors , what a win WERE GOING TO THE ALL IRELAND YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!"
Job well done janesboro, by the way isn't the silence here just deafening.

Ahh don't be like that, the points weren't cheap, they were hard earned, and well taken, by the Limerick minors :)

its not point scoring - i am merely making the point that it could be human error citing other examples where such human error occurred in broadcasting

how come me going to such lengths to "defend rte" is worrying but when mediaman sits in front of the telly with a stopwatch timing the six one sports does date mining activities and scours rte aertel internet for and six one news for any error or omission you voice no such worry

extranjero (Wexford) the points were hard won - the goal was a bit cheap - thought myself it was a square ball - even at the game i though straight away it was a square ball - look we have had 43 years of pain and hurt in that stadium inc hawkeye 2013 so we were due a break,

funny to think on sunday that myself alano and mediaman were all in the same stadium , we could have been sitting beside each other oblivious!!

Just read that the Taoiseach's daughter has called RTE's Olympics coverage "an absolute sham" because it didn't show some heat in which a swimmer from Mayo was participating. Is it too late to change the title of this thread to: "Do the GAA and SWIMMING get fair coverage in comparison to soccer and rugby?"

It's too late. If he was wearing a Mayo jersey when he was swimming then, technically, it might be included.

Nope apparently soccer doesnt get fair coverage either. .

RTE will point to Soccer Republic, a weekly highlights show, as evidence that it promotes the League of Ireland.
But the programme goes out after 11pm on Mondays, hardly conducive to attracting floating viewers and an impossible hour for young fans to watch action involving their team.
It is unthinkable that programmes such as The Sunday Game or Against the Head would be broadcast in a graveyard slot or receive similar treatment.

Rugby fans would argue that since RTE are dropping all their live rugby, they are anti rugby too. I guess RTE are anti-everybody...

I used to live in Waterford for a few years, and enjoyed many an entertaining evening at the RSC. But coverage at times of the LOI was absolutely desperate on rte, in 5 years I don't think I saw one minute of Waterford United on the TV.
If rte are biased against GAA, then they truly despise the LOI!

It appears that the Irish Examiner soccer article of August 8th comes to the same conclusion as the rest of us - that Rugby Union receives favourable treatment from RTE.

'For example, on March 18, Dundalk and Cork City - the top two teams in the country - played a League game in front of 3,528 fans at Oriel Park. Instead RTE broadcast a dead rubber Ireland U20s rugby game, a match that drew an attendance of an even 2,500 to Donnybrook.'

So if we think Rugby Union gets preferential treatment from RTE and the soccer community thinks Rugby Union gets preferential treatment from RTE?

Hmmm does it really The article states
The Irish Sport Monitor, a regular report conducted for Sport Ireland has repeatedly found that more people participate in playing football than GAA or rugby in this country.
It is unthinkable that programmes such as The Sunday Game or Against the Head would be broadcast in a graveyard slot or receive similar treatment.

This in my view suggests the arcticle has come to the conclusion that both GAA and Rugby union receive favourable treatment from RTE over DOMESTIC soccer. Also not all of us think Rugby union receives favourable treatment from RTE.

The rugby game wasnt a dead rubber. Would the soccer it have attracted the same crowd if it were televised. There are many rugby matches (even some at club level) which get similar crowd which are not covered by RTE. RTE does covers very little domestic soccer, but hey it does not cover hardly any non international rugby i.e. no pro12, no champions cup- not even highlights (dont even outbid tg4 for them)

I note that when i engaged mediaman on a gaa related question - a mere prediction for limerick v dublin minor game - no answer hmmm interesting , maybe he has a view on the upcoming games on RTE this week
Waterford v kilkenny , the camogie semis, tipp v galway OR whats on Tg4
2 ladies quarter finals - galway v tipp minor - 7 live games (is that enough) - maybe you might have a view on limericks new 5 man committee that going to get us a new manager

If ye hate RTE so much - pick up your remote and change the channel, try another station and see if they can do better or better still take a stroll down to your local GAA, soccer, rugby , sports clubs and give them a bit of support

There isnt a sporting body in Ireland who doesnt think the GAA gets preferential treatment in terms of funding and coverage

Funding comes from government and is an entirely separate issue . Mediaman has blown the perception of unfair coverage out of the water .

Well he hasnt proved any unfair coverage or pro rugby anti gaa bias to me - the only bias i see is his bias against rte and rugby

RTE give great coverage to GAA - huge amount of live games on tv and radio. Lots of highlight shows and radio 1 have fantastic coverage throughout the year of club and intercounty games.
On the other hand in rugby they have dropped the old Heineken cup, Pro 12, World Cup and soon 6 nations coverage.
This is the reality. To claim they have a pro rugby bias is pretty ridiculous

this post in my view shows that there clearly is no such bias
