dont think myself they should show it and they wont- point i am making if it rugby is as mediaman says its "favourite son" they would show a clip or a report from the game ."
irish rugby is their favourite son

alano12 (Dublin) - Posts:360 - 04/08/2016 14:00:22 1895489

i focus on showing the games as thats the best coverage possible
most fridays have marty morrissey doing some sort of preview of one of the games
rte six one news on thursday had preview of tipp v galway -with cameras in ballyporeen (marty was there) ,limerick and galway
rte six one news on friday had preview of clare v kerry -marty was in corofin"
but mediaman is discussing the news here?..you dont concede bias when its right there

no i wont spare it - who the hell do you think you are to tell me what sports i can and cannot like

Yes i am pro rugby - but i am pro gaa too - Look you obviously have a problem with that

Amazing when you post pro rugby you are biased - and when you post pro gaa - you aint"
you are taking bits out of what i said...im aware you like gaa but you are still very pro rugby as why else would you go to such lengths to defend rte?..its laughably biased...be genuine about it..of course im pro gaa..im on a gaa website but i like all sports and have mentioned soccer receiving poor treatment on the broadcaster on numerous occasions as well as sports like boxing

ok lets be objective and reasonable - rte overall show a lot more gaa than rugby (yes i know gaa encompasses 5 sports) but in fairness they show on average two championship games a week and sometimes three plus radio plus sunday game and ancilliary programmes.

Im not pro rte -i just fail to understand how people make out rte as being so anti gaa when they show a lot of it"
well gaa is a lot more popular than rugby,.as you have said..more sport and competitions to show...there is numerous examples posted here over the years and all over the internet why a sizeable number of people believe rte is biased towards rugby..it isnt something new..mediamans stats merely highlight just how biased it is...why wouldnt they show gaa games..they draw massive ratings

as has already been discussed sky are a much bigger broadcaster than rte and outbid them for the pro 12...

yes but tg4 are not - so rte could outbid them if they were interested ,rte could also outbid them for champions cup highlights -they could also outbid them for the Allianz leagues too - suggest to me they have a similar level of interest in either"
highlights package isnt the same thing...champions cup also a lot more expensive for a broadcaster than an irish sport where there is no competitor..look at the uproar over sky even been given a few games

Replying To janesboro:  ".i admit biases when i see them no matter the sport, rugby right now doesnt warrant more coverage than gaa..its simply not in the middle of rugby season while there is massive games on rte at the weekend in gaa..obviously they should be receiving coverage over the rugby as there is simply nothing going on..
alano12 (Dublin) - Posts:360 - 04/08/2016 14:10:05 1895511

yes they are getting coverage -they are showing the matches either live or in highlight form- rtes coverage is not all about the six one news"
six one news is as high profile as it gets..for rugby to receiving coverage on it over gaa at this time of year is biased..stop trying to deflect..admit it..why cant you acknowledge biases?

That again is a disingenuous post. To say RTE show 2-3 championship games a week is as accurate as saying they show 3-4 6nations games a week for example. I thought it has been proven that RTE show far more live rugby than live hurling, and possibly more live rugby than gaelic football?

they why are they not showing pro 12 , champions cup highlights or six nations in a few years
if it was their favourite son then surely they would outbid tg4 to get them and tv3 to get six nations

alano - i genuinely dont believe it is biased - but i also dont believe showing teams training is newsworthy -had yesterdays news on and turned over halfway -found the gaa ones more interesting myself -- six one is only part of rtes coverage - i would actually prefer they went back and did a sports stadium style preview on the thursday/friday night rather than putting 2 mins on six one -id also like a second captains midweek show to fill the gap midweek - like the 21s games on wed/thurs night but they can be awkward for some to get to -and i would prefer less talk and more action on sunday game show

RTE is so outdated with its coverage of GAA in my opinion.

Their coverage of Rugby and soccer is much better, you have proper lengthily debates after games something THE sunday game DOSENT do. The coverage of euro 2016 was excellent, top pundits and a great highlights package.

as soma says..you are being disingenuous...rte show more rugby than they do hurling and possibly even more than they show gaelic football..they give the six nations blanket coverage when its on...they were outbid for the pro 12 by sky..sky have the majority of the games..the pro 12 isnt a big draw...why are they receiving coverage on the news?..they were outbid by tv3 evidently for the six nations..tv3 have plenty of backing currently look at how they secured games during the euros for the first time..be interested if they bid for gaa next time the rights are up..they show underage womens, international mens and the odd club game, they cant show much more than they are already showing...i imagine 6 nations is taking up their whole budget....ill ask you a simple question..why were munster and leinster given coverage when they have nothing going on instead of the gaa considering the week of gaa that is taking place in a few days..honestly what is your opinion?..do you find it biased?...why is there more rugby on then hurling?..why is there almost as much rugby as gaelic football if not more?..you prefer to deflect deflect deflect and continue to be disingenuous..it hurts the debate

soccer coverage historically good but the 3 guys on the panel needs changing..rugby generally is well covered as much as mcgurk and hook were annoying...always a lot more positive coverage usually as well...hence why tipp the other day was so refreshing..a bit of positive coverage for once if not slightly blown out of proportion as galway are evidently quite a bad side no disrespect to tipp but if they had lost to kerry again people would be sticking the boot into them unfairly

Soma - That again is a disingenuous post. -please explain how -why do you say again - what other "disingenous" posts have i done
To say RTE show 2-3 championship games a week is as accurate as saying they show 3-4 6 nations games
-it is accurate they normally show 2 games at 2pm and 4pm on sunday and sometimes a saturday afternoon qualifier --next week they will have 3 games 2 camogie plus tipp v galway
-- they show 3 6 nations per week -plus usually either a 20s or womens game

-. I thought it has been proven that RTE show far more live rugby than live hurling,
-yes they show (i think) around 11 live hurling and around 20 football -bear in mind in few years the six nations wont be on rte

All the main hurling and football games involving the major teams are shown on either sky or RTE But what more championship games could they show and at what time - you could put some more games on at 3pm/5pm saturday. It would mostly be the lesser team which would have lesser interest. but that would inconvenience some supporters, plus would have effect on attendances. Lot more radio coverage of gaa than rugby on radio . Even though i enjoyed the game i dont think clare v limerick football would be of interest to too many neutrals

again being disingenuous..so they show 5 rugby games at weekends during the six nations..cant remember the last time rte showed 5 gaelic football or hurling games on the same weekend...2 seperate sports..gaelic football on its own is a lot more popular than rugby and warrants more coverage

so they show 5 rugby games at weekends during the six nations.-no usually 4 -be nil in a few years
.cant remember the last time rte showed 5 gaelic football or hurling games on the same weekend... never have id say -was 5 games show weekend of munster final - 2 on sunday by rte mayo v fermanag on sat with 2 hurling qualifiers on sky
--2 seperate sports.. gaelic football on its own is a lot more popular than rugby and warrants more coverage

what more championship games could they show and when bear in mind sky have the 7pm slot - all the games involving the major teams are shown -also bear in in mind sky have a game most weeks and occassionally two -any extra games would be the lesser light which may not be of much interest to neutrals .

It's a meaningless stat janesboro. Between now and next May I calculate that RTE will show 9 live games in hurling, football, camogie and ladies football combined so to say they show 2-3 games a week is misleading. Think of the number of really entertaining games with big attendances throughout this period and it really is incredible how little will be on the national TV station. The fact RTE news will give the games little coverage during this time as well (unless there is a negative story to be covered) highlights how poorly followers of the national sports are served.

They'll never show 5 championship games again either Alano because the GAA sold some rights to Sky. 4 of Mayo's 5 televised games will be on Sky. Here's hoping we'll have two more to come on RTE !

The 6 Nations on RTE used to pay for itself because they had a good sponsorship deals and a perceived wealthy viewing audience brought in good advertising revenue. Granted Ireland were only in 1/3 of 6 Nations games but how many football or hurling games outside semis and finals will have more viewers than an Ireland 6 Nations match?
