Did she ever play with the men's team in her Parish surely she would have been good enough to make an impact?

In the 2 games I've watched in the last 12 months she was exceptionally greedy, she might have kicked some great points but kicked just as many wides or dropped it into the keepers hands when there was a better option.

Carnacon is her club team and the mens team in the parish is Ballintubber. She would link well with Cillian, Diarmuid and Alan Dillon alright ;)

Cora Staunton did play some men's football growing up as there was no ladies' side at the time.

She is certainly one of the greatest ladies' footballers of all time. Of course, it is beyond some here to pay homage to her talent without throwing some snide digs at the Mayo senior men's side.

She is some player no doubt, but seriously,5-15 against a team thecend up with 0-7 I mean that tells a story in itself. Sounds like they were playing Kilkenny.

11-20 to 0-7. in the county final?...Not wanting to take away from the achievement or anything like that but if the 2nd best team in Mayo can lose by 46 points it really doesn't say much for the standard within the county. You would wonder how much football and training the opposition do.

wow 5;15. some player. she is up there with the best in the mens game in my opinion. saw her on loachra gaeil on tg4 recently and she made her senior inter county debut at 14. think she is 34 now. as someone said she is worth the admission fee.

a great player, BUT (please dont hate me arock :)) i think she benefits hugely from the fact that the womens game is played far more honestly and in a far more honourable manner than the mens (well thats my experience of watching it anyway).
If the ladies game was like the mens she would no doubt be sledged and fouled and dragged, and have her jersey pulled, and be assaulted off the ball (win at all costs you know) and it would be interesting to see her perform under those conditions.

You could say the same about crossmaglen men in Armagh. Her club have won a number of all irelands and mayo are one of strongest women football counties

I couldn't disagree with anything you say there, she even said as much herself on TV recently. As you say she'd been battered if she was a man.

Then why aren't other ladies footballers scoring the same as they are playing under the same rules. It's a bit like asking why does every forward not show the same class as colm Cooper as the are playing under the rules and defending as him.

The teams would be evenly matched if not for Cora

Best of luck to Cora in her professional stint down under. He owes Mayo and Ladies football nothing.

Good to luck to Cora in her stint down under. Given her success in other codes, I wouldn't bet against her making it, even in her mid-thirties.

From the Indo report, it seems that she's not completely closing the door on togging out for Mayo again next year, as the AFLW season is very short, running from January til the end of March.
