Low scoring G.A.A. games.

Aah...thanks to a Mayo GAA blog I got the answer to my question! On 27th June 1971 Galway played Mayo in a Connacht football semi final in Tuam Stadium and won on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-7. John Morley (not Tony) played for Mayo that day. It's nice to know that my childhood memory was fairly accurate!

John Morley was a teak tough Centre back who read the game very well. He played with many lads in St. Jarlath's who won the Hogan cup in 1960 & 61 & some of the Galway lads (6 of them) went on to win an All Ireland Minor title in 1960 & three Senior All Ireland medals in the 3 in a row. He was savagely murdered in his line of duty as a Garda at Loughglynn in 1980. His son Gordon Morley played at centre back on the Salthill/Knocknacarra team that beat St Galls in the 2006 All Ireland club final. John Morley was one of my favorite players to watch from those days in the early 70's.

Just remembered and checked there to verify but the Connaught Final of 1993, Mayo 1-05 Roscommon 0-07, remember watching it and it was painful stuff, poor linesman got a belt of the ball around the waist area same day and lets just say I think he will remember the game too...Ulster Final was better football but worse scoring still at 0-08 to 0-06....1993 the year...

1980 Westmeath SFC final, The Downs 1-2 Kilbeggan Shamrocks 0-3. And they complain about the quality of football these days!

God that's low..I was saying in earlier posts though maybe the original poster meant to keep it to inter county games..we will all dig up those games..but infairness for a senior final that is low scoring..very low..

The redeeming factor for the Donegal v Derry Ulster final was the weather. Look on YouTube, it was like a swimming pool, game shouldn't have been played.
