In Hurling it would be Waterford or Galway and in Football Galway, Mayo and Armagh. Usually it's the underdogs I root for. Maybe it's strange but I could never shout for Cork in Hurling but would like to see them do well in Football. Equally I could never shout for the Dubs or Kerry in Football but would in Hurling. Wouldn't say I have a particular affinity towards any county when my own isn't involved but like many people I'll find myself rooting for the underdog quite often. I'd watch most games that are on tv either live or recorded and wouldn't normally miss any big matches. I love watching football regardless of whether my own county is involved or not. I don't watch a lot of hurling I must admit, or at least I don't make time to watch it in the way that I do football. It's a brilliant game and I appreciate the tremendous skill and effort put in by the teams but it just doesn't do anything for me for whatever reason. In the 80's and 90's I was a huge Meath fan but being honest I was more a player fan than a team fan, I loved watching Mick Lyons and Anthony Tohill and as a result followed Meath and Derry. These days have a grà for Donegal and Michael Murphy he's some player. Almost to a man, or woman, they are fine welcoming, sporting, salt of the earth people. So I have no problem in shouting for them although in '17 I did shout for Waterford, for the simple that they were down at that time even longer that Galway, and are also a great county, with the finest supporters. Football. Down. Like us took 3 all Ireland's in the sixties and returned in the nineties stylish fluid football. Similarities are notable. Have good time for Kildare as well and loved the colour contrast between these two sets of fans at the 2010 semi final. Hurling would be Waterford. Contributed as much and more to hurling than any all Ireland winner over the last 25 years in terms of being involved in great games. How they did not pull an Ireland was disappointing. Also i like Limerick. Tipperary are an interesting one from my perspective. Football - being a Meath man, i'd respect the Dubs enough to wish them well. I'd also have a lot of time for Tyrone. In 97 they played a pitch opening close to my home. I asked for an autograph and one of the players (might've been Brian Dooher) took the program off me and got every player to sign it. A very classy gesture and earned my respect right there. Hurling. Mother is from Waterford so I've also been a Deise. I've always had a gra for the Cork hurlers too. Always a stylish bunch. I lived in Dublin in the mid 00's when they were going well and every sunday they played in Croker they used to come down the road I lived on pucking balls and lossening up. Was a sight to behold. When they played Waterford one year in croker I stuck a Deise flag out the window knowing they'd be coming passed. Agree, one of the first phone calls I got after we won the All Ireland in 18 was from a Galway friend. He was gutted but really delighted for us. In hurling it would be Waterford from Munster and Dublin in Leinster, I would like to say Carlow but too often they are not at the top end to make a difference, so if anyone were to win an All Ireland in hurling it would be Dublin or Waterford. Football - given how quick these days Wexford go out there are a lot of teams to choose from however I perhaps would still go for Dublin and that was every before they started winning, unlike the time when Kerry were going for 5 in a row I was supporting Dublin. However the reality is I don't dislike any team and when watching games I can switch depending on how the game is being played.
