Kieran Fitzgerald Retires From Corofin

(Oldest Posts First)

I think this man deserves a thread. He was playing up until 39 and was still marking the best forwards in the country. Tough as nails full back. The type of player you'd love to have in your team.

Congratulations to him. Well worth a thread. You may see a lot more retirements due to this virus.

Happy retirement to Kieran, some achievement playing at the level he has till he was 39.

Great player, first saw him play midfield for the galway minors in 1999, brilliant attitude over a long period of time, a great example to all the young lads in Corofin

Is it 14 county titles he has, 7 Connachts and 4 All Ireland club? Has to be up there with the most decorated club players ever surely? A magnificent career and a fine ambassador for the sport. No doubt he will still contribute behind the scenes in Corofin and perhaps with Galway as well. Maith thú a Kieran!

A bit of a gripe, you'd have to wonder at the mindset of anyone who would red-thumb any of the posts on this thread....

14 county titles, 7 connacht clubs, 4 club all-irelands, and even an intercounty all-ireland from 2001. A lot to be miserable about in fairness, for the also rans.

Agreed but sportsmanship dictates you honor your opponents when it's all over and you acknowledge greatness when you see it. Henry Shefflin and others broke my heart numerous times but I've nothing but respect for them legends.

Great player at all levels and great club player as well something that is rare in this era. Wish him and his family well in his retirement.
