Storm Ciara

As people will be planning long drives to support their Counties on Sunday and a storm is approaching, Anyone know when decisions will be made on going ahead or postponing the schedule.
Not to mention players and officials who are obliged to travel earlier and return later.

Knowing the GAA, it will probably be last minute. Games that do go ahead could turn into total lotteries if conditions get very bad.

If it is as bad as they say then our squad could end up in New York not London.

It was only last march/April cork were playing tipperary in a league hurling game in pairc ui rinn throw in at 2PM.. there were patrons outside the locked stadium at 1pm and the game was called off at 1:10..you could tell at 10am that morning the game would not go ahead but the ref was late arriving and hence the confusion .now personally it didn't affect me as much as I live 10 mins from the stadium..but the people travelling from west cork and indeed tipperary were royally rode that day..so I'd imagine if you are travelling to a game this weekend look at the forecast and judge try judge yourself...because you could make a long trip only to be disappointed with no game and waste of petrol or diesel

It'll be hard for them to make a call, it'll be the rain that'll call games off and suppose they can't really make the call until the morning of. Mayo v Roscommon in the league last year was played in a storm, we were at the very back of the stand and still couldn't escape it. They'll play it if it's just wind imo, but it's the rain. Counties can't really afford to destroy pitches for one league game

You think that's bad? At least the distances involved for players and supporters wasnt too severe. Last year the Waterford vs Galway league match in Walsh Park was called off 40 -- 50 minutes before the scheduled throw in due to a waterlogged pitch. Lots of Galway supporters had stayed overnight and nearly all of us had arrived in Waterford city before it was called off. I didnt find out myself until I arrived at the ground. It had been raining heavily all morning and should have been called off 3 or 4 hours earlier

Oh ide say the hotels in Waterford were packed out for that league match.

But a statement should at least be made in the morning warning of a possible calling off. Ide much prefer to miss a game that goes ahead last minute than travel hours for one that gets called off last minute

Status Orange warning for the whole country tomorrow, Sunday, 09 Feb, and here in the West and Northwest today Saturday. At the moment you wouldn't put a cat out - they'd be blown away.

Met Eireann definition:

STATUS ORANGE
Infrequent and dangerous weather conditions which may pose a threat to life and property.

Prepare yourself in an appropriate way depending on location and activity. All people and property in the affected areas can be significantly impacted.

Check your activity/event and delay or cancel as appropriate.

Apart from bowing down and paying homage to the new god of the fixture sheet could someone explain what is the purpose of holding games in weather like this?
I'm saying holding as neither side can actually play football or hurling in these conditions.

I think everyone knows there's a possibility of games being called off but a decision should be taken tonight, not in morning. I actually had to travel from Sligo towards Galway on N17 earlier and I met both the Kerry and Galway team buses heading North for games tomorrow. Them lads will have there whole weekend given up for nothing of their games don't go ahead!

Just a bit of wind and rain in the home of the five in a row, we should be good to go! ;)

Then we have lads on telling us how the weather cleared up on the Sunday morning and it was a joke to call it off so early without even trying

Ya I understand that too, but leaving it until an hour before throw in is crazy. Inspection at 6pm in Armagh and gates due to open at 6:15!

Would be great if instead of showing no consideration for players and supporters they would be prepared to put football on with hurling the same weekend and to hell with making everyone work around the dual player

I can tell you one thing if the players were under contract these game wouldn't be played. No owner would allow a player the chance of getting hurt if they were paying them. Kildare and Armagh was a disgrace, putting players out in those conditions. Instead of the GPA taking hurling teams to New York to play some half assed game they should be out on weekends like these making sure players welfare are being taken care of

The 1939 All-Ireland hurling final between Kilkenny and Cork is known as the 'Thunder and Lightning Final'.
