Dublin Pull Out Of The O'Byrne Cup

Their first game will be against Kerry next year. This competition raises money for the players fund so it's a blow to lose them. Dublin also don't compete in the Leinster Junior championship.

I suspect this is knee jerk to not having a management team in place and preparations etc.

Id say we will be back in it this time next year, hugely fertile and valuable competition for us in terms of identifying developing players, really disappointed we wont be involved. Wasn't a fan of going straight to the latter stages last year either.

Not good news.

And dont forget you have been advocating consistently for Dublin to be taken out of the Leinster Senior Championship....

Kerry havent played in the McGrath Cup for two years and Kilkenny often skip the Walsh Cup when it suits them so it's nothing new with teams in these pre season competitions.

Looking at the teams Dublin fielded they pulled out of it years ago

They're afraid they won't be able to put it up to Westmeath I reckon.

They don't steam roll the O'Byrne Cup every year to the stage where it becomes pointless. All the funding they've received from the gaa, I feel it's very disrespectful they snub this competition and the Leinster Junior too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but for last couple of years it wasn't Gavin that managed the team in obc. Or am I totally mistaken???

So not sure why you are trying to make a big issue out of this.

You are spot on RD.
PC did.

But I reckon with Jim leaving and trying to get a new management team in place, they decided to not enter this year. Nothing sinister or disrespectful at hand here at all, as other would lead you to believe....

If we put a strong team into the OBC every year and won it every year you'd be whinging that we shouldn't be in it like you do with the LSFC. If we don't enter it you call it disrespectful. With your very large population, class A training facilities, fantastic football pedigree, any amount of top quality ex-champions coaching or ready to coach, I would have thought that Meath would be chomping at the bit now. No Dublin in the OBC, no Jim Gavin at the helm of Dublin, top players retiring, as predicted earlier in the year despite your doom and gloom Mystic Meg predictions of everlasting Dublin AI wins. What more could you want?

I don't think there is either.
The only thing I'll say is that I do believe it would have been a good opportunity for the new manager to have a look at the panel up close.

Yep possibly.
Probably learn from A v B games though
Maybe the new mgt will reconsider.

As I suggested earlier RD....

"According to tonight's statement from the board, with his first game in charge set to be the O'Byrne Cup semi-final on January 11th after the All-Ireland champions picked up a bye into the last four of the competition"

So much for the original poster trying to make a huge deal out of this eh.... ;o)

Jack I just read that Dessie Farrell's first game in charge of dublin will be the O'Byrne cup semifinal on January 11th.

This will be bittersweet news for Jack. He'll be moaning now that they ARE in the OBC. It's unfair on the other Leinster counties, just like the LSFC.
