8th/9th best club team in a county as strong as Kerry gotta be heavy favourites for me.

Plus Templenoe really look strong."
That's exactly what I said but as we all hope that a spanner may be thrown into the works and I think Mattock Rangers May be that team. They were the last Louth Club to reach a Leinster Senior Final. Good pedigree there.

I know I did it for the laugh to see if anyone would notice. It is very bad form out of them.

Replying To MillerX:  "Templenoe of Kerry will be strong favourites for the Intermediate Football. However do not be surprised if Mattock Rangers from Louth end up as Champions, great club, great team, great football people around Collon."
Well said MillerX. Collon is unique that their parish spreads into County Meath so along the border you would have people that would support Meath and Mattock would be their local club. They had some team between 2000 to 2010. They won their first ever Senior Championship in 2002 and went all the way to the Leinster final in their maiden season only to be beaten by Meath's great Dunshaughlin team. They reached six finals between 2001 and 2010 and won four of these. The reids are still doing the business for Mattock. It's great to see them back senior after four years in Inter.

Ballyhale, Thomas' and Ballygunner look like the teams to beat in the club championship

Do people know that Templenoe have 4 members of the Kerrry senior team
Adrian Spillane Killian Spillane Tadgh Morley and Gavin Crowley
That's unreal talent for a intermediate team to have
Many Kerry senior club teams would not have that many lads on the county team

Only thing is that they are very light when it comes to panel as the area doesn't even have a national school. They also have serious players like Stephen O'Sullivan (Kerry minor & junior) and Brian Crowley (Gavins brother and a good wing forward). They had to forfeit county league games this year due to missing the kerry contingent as far as I know. Great to see a club like that where they are.

I didn't know that to be fair, I knew of the Spillanes but not Morley and Crowley. I would have taken Kerry champions anyway for intermediate but definitely would now. If im not mistaken it was a Kerry team that won intermediate last year wasn't it? They gave a good hiding in the final to a strong St Endas team of Antrim who had been playing div 1 all year. I think they must have won by double digits which is some win for an AI final

I agree with Ballyhale and Ballygunner but St Thomas's looked fairly plain all year. They had a lot of come from behind wins and just didn't impress me all that much. Maybe it was due to Fintan Brodericks injury or maybe due to the other teams in Galway being tough. I'm not sure. I hope I'm wrong.

They did indeed. It was Kilcummin who beat Naomh Éanna well, with Kevin McCarthy the star of the show.
Kerry clubs have dominated the Intermediate and Junior club All-Ireland. As has been mentioned, there are only 8 senior clubs in Kerry, so their intermediate winners would be a middle to strong senior team in counties like Galway, where there are 18 senior clubs (was 20 last year).
This is an advantage for sure, but it's a system that works well for Kerry.

I was actually just looking through the Provinvial Club championships the other day at the 3 levels (Senior, Intermediate and Junior). My internet travels led me to the Kerry GAA page and when you see that of the 6 teams who made up the finalists at the 3 grades, only one (St Senans) was not in Senior Division 1, then it is no surprise they dominate the AI club at the Intermediate and Junior grades.

Definitely true. I think I heard somewhere that when Glenbeigh-Glencar won the junior All Ireland a couple of years ago they were the only team to have beaten Dr. Crokes in a competitive game that year.. Madness! We have strong junior champs this year in Kildare but technically speaking, they're the 33rd ranked team in the county... they shouldn't stand a chance against Kerry winners, were they to meet

The GAA ought to take a look at this. The Senior B champions in Offaly qualify for the Leinster Intermediate Football Championship IIRC. It has already been mentioned that Kerry has 8 clubs in its senior championship whereas some counties have 16 or more. Donegal and Tipperary for example.

That's not a central issue, it's down to each county to administer their competitions. If counties insist on having 16+ senior clubs, when in all honesty they probably would only have 3 or 4 contenders and the rest also rans, then that's probably not ideal.
Many clubs want to hold on to senior status at all costs and rightly so. However if the division is so big, there will be many in there that are not really right for the grade. They would do better to be graded where they are more competitive. I think county boards should take on the Kerry model.

That's not Kerry's fault. The Kerry Senior Football Championship is constructed in such a way that every good to decent footballer in the county gets the chance to play Senior football and is thereby tested against the best in the county and so is "in the shop window" to be viewed by the Kerry selectors. This is achieved by divisional teams also playing in the Senior Championship. So in effect their championship exists for the benefit of the Kerry team. A biproduct is extremely strong Intermediate and Junior Championships. Here in Meath various efforts have been made to 1. Reduce the number of teams participating in the Senior and Intermediate Championships and 2. To include divisional teams into the Senior Championship but with little success except for to reduce the Senior Championship from 18 to 16 teams but this has resulted in the Intermediate Championship expanding to 20 teams. So certainly our Junior Champions are competing with clubs ranked away above them. Our delegates to our County Committee/Board do not seem able to grasp this. And I would say it is the same in a lot of other counties as well and if Croke Park were to intervene they would just dig the heels in deeper than ever, see they are not as cute as the Kerrymen.

Agreed. I think Donegal should reduce to 8 or 10 teams and create 4 divisional sides. Kerry's model affords a lot more opportunities for junior players to prove themselves at the top level.

Our county championships in Kerry are totally separate from our county leagues, they're not linked whatsoever, 2 totally different competition which have nothing to do with eachother .

In Kerry the only way you can play senior championship is if your club team can win the junior, premier junior and ntermediate championships or if your club is not a senior club then you can get called into your divisional side if you're good enough.

Naomh Conaill were very impressive winners over Clontibret tonight. They're so battle hardened by now. Nice mix of youth and experience. Ciaran Thompson could open a tin of beans with that left foot of his.

Kilcoo or Derrygonnelly will have a tough nut to crack in the final.

Nemo Rangers are actually walking this match. Dr Crokes would've been a far more difficult game for them. Would it not make sense if the club champs were run around the same time as the county champ. Perhaps some of the Kerry lads may have thoughts on this? That Stacks team were knocked out of county champ a while ago and would not be prepared to the level they would have been otherwise.

Great game and well done to st Mullins.

James Doyle brilliant last 2 points were as good as any scores you will see.

Last point he flicked it on the hurl over the defender and then caught it so looked all right to me.

But hard luck to Rathdowney.
