Now the only reason I can see for this very surprising departure is personal (family and commitment). Thought he done a excellent job with Laois, huge improvement since he came in. Wishing him the best royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 30/07/2019 20:53:52 2218875 Link 2 |

That's it RD. Young family. Very best wishes and thanks to John. Done Trojan work with us to bring us up 2 divisions. BliainanÁir (Laois) - Posts: 598 - 30/07/2019 21:17:16 2218887 Link 1 |
That's surprising alright, thought he was doing a great job with Laois. There is possibly a vacancy with the Kerry U-20's job next year, perhaps that might be a factor? TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 30/07/2019 22:19:53 2218927 Link 1 |
He has a physio practice in Portlaoise and young family. Unlikely he'd commute.

Sure it's like a full time second job been a inter county manager these days. Very hard for people with young families to give it everything.

Very true. I'd know him well and he usedn't sleep after and before matches, planning strategy, thinking about how to rectify problems etc. Same for all the inter county managers. You'd see the work and emotion Andy McEntee invests from your own county. Wears it on his face. Struck by Noel Sheedy of Tipp at the weekend too. He literally looked like he couldn't catch his breath after the match. I don't know how Jim Gavin appears so calm. BliainanÁir (Laois) - Posts: 598 - 31/07/2019 10:30:43 2219020 Link 1 |
If I was hammering teams I would be calm too. rorysboys (Donegal) - Posts: 2390 - 31/07/2019 11:11:04 2219032 Link 1 |
That's the elephant in the room i failed to see!!

Yeah very much so. It's stress at a whole different level these days. I see it with Andy McEntee. I just hope he stays to continue the good work , but with all the pressure of it these days it's hard to know.

I wonder if he's got a call from the Galway County Board... festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3097 - 05/09/2019 22:25:20 2233164 Link 0 |
I was hoping it was the Tipp county board that were calling him :) He'd be in Thurles quicker than he'd be in Galway or Tuam and he wouldn't have to deal with the traffic on the way into Galway city.

Is Sugrue in Jack O'Connor backroom team? They were together in Kerry and he was in Pat Shea set up too. kerryforsam19 (Kerry) - Posts: 95 - 10/09/2019 10:37:40 2234057 Link 0 |
Michael Quirke set to be appointed. I think he could do a good job. We now have 3 Kerry men managing Leinster teams next year! Kerry15 (Kerry) - Posts: 957 - 12/09/2019 17:12:36 2234822 Link 0 |
Jeepers O Connor at Kildare, Galvin at Wexford, Quirke at Laois, no ends the Kerry mafia will go to to try and stop the Dubs. :D TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 12/09/2019 17:17:54 2234824 Link 1 |
We're the county that keeps on giving, sure we gave ye Cian O'Sullivan Brian Fenton and the Brogans. We gave Mark O'Connor and Stefan Okunbar to geelong . We have the O'Sheas to Mayo. Cox to Roscommon and that's just players, not to mention great managers like Micko Paidí john Evans Liam Kearns Mickey Ned. Like I say we just keep giving. Best of luck to Mike Quirke in Laois Iv done a lot of workshops under him and his enthusiasm is infectious he'll do a fantastic job no doubt. And far and away and St Brendan the navigator, I reckon St Brendan would have made a great football manager . Also Michael fassbender from the same club as David Clifford.
