Donegal V Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

A great result for us in the end. A victory by 9 points was unthinkable at one point in the second half when Meath really upped the ante. The key thing for us was that yet again Murphy took control, ably assisted by Ryan McHugh and we tacked on the scores to see us home. Frank McGlynn also made a telling impact I felt. He is a very clever player. He sees the gaps and provides nice little assists. A great player to introduce when teams are tiring.

Meath deserve great credit. They had a right good cut at us and were unlucky that a couple of things just didn't go their way. One thing is for sure is that playing in the Super 8s and Division One football next year will bring them on. They are a proper football county with great fans and it will only good for the game overall to see them operating back at the business end of things.

For us it was a timely reminder that we're by no means perfect. Kerry showed ominous form yesterday and the game this weekend will tell a true tale in terms of where both teams are at. Shaun Patton's kickouts were brilliant once again yesterday. It was interesting to see how aggressive Kerry were pushing up on Mayo. It could be a dangerous strategy against us however. Patton has the ability to kick very long and accurate balls over the top. If our runners like Eoghan Ban and Ryan McHugh time it right Kerry could be in bother.

At the other end, what more can we say about David Clifford. A truly exceptional talent. He will take some watching on Sunday. But these are the challenges that must be faced and dealt with at this stage of the season. A brilliant time of the year for players and fans alike.

Thanks for the info RD. Apologies I was misinformed. I did hear on one of the podcasts I was listening to that Meath were missing a couple of players from their under 20 squad and Conlon was mentioned as one. All the same highlights the difficulties teams have in Leinster to try build for the future. Best young players cannot play with their age group giving a huge advantage to Dublin.

I still cant see Donegal getting into the semis, Kerry and Mayo will both win against them. They are have been blown up to be something they are not and haven't played anyone this year yet apart from a very out of sorts Tyrone side which has improved immensely since then.

This group will see Kerry and Mayo advance.

Good man Cacs. Your were here with this oll tripe after we handed you your arses on a plate. Spouting on about Tyrone new style of play and how it will take time to implement, etc. Etc. Good to see that we give Micky such a scare that you have reverted back to type.

Will we reach semis? Who knows. Are Tyrone dignified in defeat? Certainly not.

Now now, im just stating an opinion. I think Donegal lack experience against really good opposition having been in division two last season. Next week will be a serious wake up call and I expect Kerry to win big in croke park.

Lacking experience against really good opposition... is that admission that Tyrone are not really good?

Can't see anything except a convincing Donegal win here especially if Donegal get over their habit of trying to see games out in the second half.

In Navan I might have given Meath some chance but in Ballybofey it will be a comfortable home win especially with Donegal well rested & Meath having had a couple of tough weeks."
You got that one spot on, by the 60th minute we looked exhausted, and effort of getting to Div one and rollercoaster championship had taken its toll.

You forgot to mention that Tyrone weren't trying against Donegal because they dont care about the Ulster Championship and they are the only team to challenge Dublin lol. Being serious you probably have a point, Donegal havent been tested yet and the Kerry game will show where we are at. However we have improved a lot from last year and I feel we are ready for Kerry and Mayo.
