Cant see any over confidence from them at all. Think their comments have been classy just like their team they are confident and rightly so I think this donegal team are the real deal players like mccugh, brennan, mcbrearty and Murphy are a credit to the gaa and should inspire kids to play ball in the right way. Hopefully we make it a dog fight as 1 meath poster said. 3 games against top opposition should stand us in good stead

It'll be interesting to see how we set up for this, I think we've come a long way from the league final and in that second half we really stepped up a gear which Meath didn't handle well. We were very open against them and Newman had a field day against young Brendan McCole before Neil McGee came on and shored things up (along with a change in tactics I think). So I'll be curious to see if they'll set up to snuff out any hint of hope for the high ball into Newman this time around and try and put this to bed early doors.

I don't think it's overconfident to say we should win this match and it'll be bitterly disappointing if we don't.

Would you prefer if Donegal posters played down their chances and didn't give an honest opinion? Most Donegal supporters were confident going into the Ulster final v Cavan based on our performance against Tyrone with the first half display being Donegal's best half of football since Jim's days in charge. If you can't be confident in your team when they are playing well, when can you be?

Our performance v Cavan didn't reach the level it did v Tyrone but was still more than enough and the good thing about all our games to date is that there is still plenty to work on and with the hurt of not making it out of the super 8 group last year I can see a strong performance being delivered this sunday. League games between Donegal and Meath won't mean anything when the ball in thrown in as this Donegal team is operating at a much higher level than what they were a few months ago. I'd also expect Paddy McBrearty to come on another level or two from the Ulster championship. I'm sure a lot of his ACL rehab thoughts over the last year were focused on making his debut in the super 8's.

Meath are a good side and this year has been a success and I really expect them to come close to winning one of their super 8 games and their game at home to Kerry could be very interesting. They have very good individual defenders who will be under a lot of pressure this weekend and I expect them to make things tough for a good chunk of this match. Donegal should pull away when gaps start the appear in the last 20 mins and I'd expect/hope for a win on a scoreline of 2-19 to 1-13 or something like that.

If you're chatting to any of the Donegal panel be sure to tell them it'll be a 9 point win. Keep up the good work!

For Meath, the fear and pressure should come off. They're in bonus territory x2 and they've done a great deal this year to credit themselves. With the utmost pride and respect in my team, they've done extremely well to win promotion to Div.1, reach the Leinster Final, and reach the Super 8's this year given what the panel has to offer. That being said, they're up against it now. Nowhere to hide.
As a realist, and a lover of the game first and foremost, I fear for Meath in the next three matches. I dont believe in moral victories or polishing turds so Meath have a huge game in Ballybofey against Donegal firing on all cylinders. Two years back they got within 2 points. This year on two occasions they were beaten in the last 10/15 minutes. This should be a different animal altogether but we'll see what it brings. I firmly believe Meath will get closer to Mayo and Kerry than to Donegal.

Great to see a resurgent Meath but for this one I think it will be Donegal by as much as they decide appropriate, without giving too much away. Meath will grow in confidence & competence & will be very competitive next year.

Donegal people predicting a Donegal win won't stop the Donegal team from beating the Meath team.

Donegal will be difficult , but then again Donegal are out of Ulster now.

Nothings a given from here on, and and Meath will feel they have a good shot.

Replying To MuckrossHead:  "No cute hoorism from me.

Can't see anything except a convincing Donegal win here especially if Donegal get over their habit of trying to see games out in the second half.

In Navan I might have given Meath some chance but in Ballybofey it will be a comfortable home win especially with Donegal well rested & Meath having had a couple of tough weeks."
Its hard to see past a Donegal win, this Meath team have been on the road since start of league, barring a few changes for injury the same lads have lined out game after game and a major effort was put in to get promotion. If we carry the ball into contact like we did against Clare it will be a long afternoon for us. However this is where we want to be and will be a great learning experience and a chance for young lads to develop, playing quality opposition over next three weeks is to be embraced and there are many out there who would gladly swap places. Looking forward to the trip North, a game in CP and finish it off in Navan. What a difference a year makes.

One of the reasons we are confident is that we know well that there is no chance that the Donegal panel will take anything for granted.

As I said in my opening post you will get no cute hoorism from Donegal posters.

We are basing our opinions on performances to date from both teams, nothing more nothing less.

Can't see Meath winning a game is this group, unless maybe if Kerry are playing dead rubber when they meet them in Navan.
Genuinely hope I'm wrong though.

Really looking forward to Donegal match.

Be great to be taught how to play football by Donegal.

Sure like Tyrone they are laden with All Ireland titles unlike the Royals.

Be closer than a lot of people think, Meath should cover the handicap +7, they have some good defenders. Donegal to shade it though

You might get your wish. Nobody gloating here, most people would admit that we are just a better team. Just like Dublin are better than us. So what. Maybe that's hard to accept for you but if you win on Sunday I'll buy you a kebab in Ballybofey.

Scully 0-0
Kilkenny 0-1
Howard 0- 1
Costello 0-0
Mannion 0-3
Ocallanan 1-0 ( goal was in last 5 mins)"
Agreed

Mines a snack box. No self respecting Meath men eat kebabs after a match a snack box or a dinner box only

Its going to be tough for Meath no doubt. But there is absolutely no pressure on Meath to win. We will go and give it a lash. There was massive pressure on Meath to beat Clare and qualify for super 8's and bonce back after the Dublin disaster. That's done now.
All the pressure is on Donegal beat what most people think is a poor team. If Donegal lose at home they have to play Kerry in Croke Park and Mayo in Mc Hale park. So they will be under pressure to get the home win. Meath have learned allot since we played Donegal in Croke park and blooded new players, trying players in different positions etc. Which is important when trying to build a young team. So we should be better shape than people think. Harnan was missing against Dublin I am not saying we would have won or anything, but he been key for us. When he plays he frees up one the best players in the country at the moment Donal Keogan to run at teams and he is good at it. Keogan and Harnan created at least 4 goal chances in two games scoring 3. If we didn't have Harnan yesterday we probably would have lost. Sorry for the Harnan keohan rant there. I expect Donegal will win,but I wouldn't be surprised if Meath put it up to Donegal more than people think.

Whats the buzz like around Meath at the moment for the game? Is there much chatter about many people making the trip up and What kind of crowd do Meath posters expect to travel? 3/4000? Considering the home game in Navan and the fact Croke Park is so near by it's the only real away trip for Meath fans.
