Mayo V Kerry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

As I Kerry fan I fear this fixture. Home advantage helps but Mayo are vastly experienced and they essentially bullied us the last two fixtures. Our defence is porous and our midfield poor. Mayos running game could cause high problems. But if we get even at midfield we have classier forwards. We haven't lost in Killarney since 1995. I see RTE are showing Cork V Dublin. With Dublin 1/50. Sky are not showing the Kerry Mayo clash so is it not being shown live. If so that's laughable, it's the tie of the round

Absolutely. A game just made for television, which a lot of people would enjoy watching. The GAA is, of course, responsible for this, and not the broadcasters. Sometimes you would think that they are trying to make the general public forget that Gaelic games exist. Every other sport tried to promote itself - and nothing better for this than television - but the GAA wants to keep its own games hidden like a dirty secret.

We already know the outcome of the other group but this group is genuinely intriguing, from a Meath perspective we ran Donegal very close twice in the league and beat Cork (who gave Kerry an almighty scare) comfortably. I think Mayo are there for the taking but will be dangerous if not respected.

Agreed about the tv scheduling (if accurate) but then Dublin and Cork are the largest population centers in the country and money, as ever, talks.

Intriguing match up down in Killarney. One big loss for Mayo is Matty Ruane, who scored goals in both league fixtures against Kerry. I feel we may miss his driving runs through the centre. Likewise, DOC also has done a bit of damage against Kerry in recent years.

If we can limit the influence of Clifford and Sean O'Shea then the winning of the game is there for us, I think. Then again, Mayo blow so hot and cold that we're almost impervious to predictions at this stage.

How are Kerry faring injury-wise?

Mayo are winning this game , our worst nightmare is back in the groove. Mayo with momentum are very hard to stop. This young Kerry team won't be able for this freight train that is coming next Sunday. Mayo the weirdest team of all time.

I see that it is Roscommon v Tyrone at 5pm and Dublin v Cork at 7pm on Sat 12th July.

Then on Sunday we have Donegal v Clare/Meath at 2pm and Kerry v Mayo at 4pm.

Is there any reason the Kerry v Mayo game won't be on TV?

Looking at the RTE schedule here looks like Kerry v Mayo will be live on RTE1, hurling will be on RTE2, they are not showing Donegal v Meath/Clare according to this.

I fancy Mayo here, Kerry full back line is iffy, Coen could have a field day with the right ball.

Big test for our young team.
Hopefully we get a strong ref with eyes in the back of his head to deal with Keegan and OConnors antics.

On the game itself I think this is a very hard one to call. Nobody has any idea how good kerry are really and I'm not sure the few weeks off will do them any good.

I'm hoping that Moran will cancel out O'Shea around the middle and we get closer to Mayo in this area than we did in March when we were dominated by O'Shea / Ruane.

Kerry played an aggressive high press v Cork, if we do this next weekend Mayo will easily beat us imo. It would suit them down to the ground. I believe we will get bodies back and try to play on the counter in this one. Keeping 15 on the field will be crucial, we have had discipline issues lately and several silly dismissals, it would be naive to think Mayo have not noticed.

Ye should put in a call for Cormac Reilly...or whoever reffed the 09 final when ye took out the Cork player...
