Munster Footballers Revolt In 2013

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Are my eyes deceiving me, a Dublin man here (with his team going for 5 in a row) and he is jealous of Kerry's haul of Munster titles?

I guess the Kingdom are still out in front on the roll of honour.

:-)

Who's next on the list after Kerry without the benefit of state aid?!

Kerry did not have any home comforts in this year's Munster Championship. We travelled away to Ennis and away to Cork.

When Dublin play in a Leinster final in Croke Park, their next Leinster game should be an away game. It's up to 10 Leinster counties and their players to try to bring some fairness like that about."

Just like in Leinster.

Just like a lot of other teams.

Generally, it is. The first round is played outside Dublin.

If you're talking about the next Leinster final, where would you play it? The next highest ground capacity in Leinster is 24,000 (Nowlan Park). Even with the modest enough numbers at this years Leinster final, you'd be denying tens of thousands of fans the opportunity to attend.

It's up to 10 Leinster counties and their players to try to bring some fairness like that about.

The Leinster teams seem to continually vote for such games to be played in Croke Park. They have the power to change the system via democratic means. This sounds pretty fair to me. However, you seem to disagree.

Munster finalists could be drawn on the same side of the draw. Leinster seeded quarter-finalists are kept apart.
Dublin had semi-final and final in Croke Park. Kerry did not have the luxury of any provincial home games this year.
Yes, Dublin's first round is outside of Dublin, I am saying they should play in their opponents home ground or choice of suitable venue.
The Leinster final should continue in Croke Park. The trade off being when Dublin play in a home final, their next Leinster game is in their opponents home ground or choice of suitable venue.
Yes, Leinster continually vote for Croke Park, just like the Munster Council wanted Kerry and Cork seeded in opposite semi-finals. The Munster players had to revolt for change. Leinster players will have to do likewise for fairness.

I have literally never heard a single person from Leinster take umbrage with the local setup. This isn't an issue here.

Out of interest, if Munster finalists can be drawn together in the subsequent semi finals, how come Cork haven't met Kerry in the semis since 2012?

Dublin had semi-final and final in Croke Park. Kerry did not have the luxury of any provincial home games this year.

Nor did Carlow, Wicklow, Kildare, Offaly, Louth, Westmeath, Laois, Longford, Derry, Monaghan, Armagh, Antrim, Donegal, Limerick, Waterford or Leitrim.

In fact, Wicklow, Armagh, Donegal, Limerick and Waterford have had no home game, provincial or otherwise. Its not ideal but Kerry are far from members of an exclusive club here.

I've no issue with this, in theory. However, what constitutes a suitable venue for you? For example, if Dublin met Meath in the 2020 Leinster final, would the 11,000 capacity (according to Meath Chronicle in 2018) be suitable to host this? Would St. Conleth's Park with a 6,200 be suitable if Dublin met Kildare? Cusack Park holds 11k, O'Moore Park holds 18k. These are the most recent finalists' grounds capacities. Where could you feasibly play these games?

Maybe they do perceive having all Leinster finals in Croke Park as unfair. I haven't heard this mooted before but I'm not on any senior panel. If they feel strongly enough about it (no evidence, anecdotal or otherwise regarding this) and if they can't get their counties boards to stand up for them (no evidence of county boards not adequately representing their teams that I've seen) then I'd agree that a threat of boycott is a valid option to them.

Just say they were successful in such a boycott and had their demands met - where exactly would they play the Leinster final?

When double contest one of these home finals, their next Leinster game, a quarter-final in the current system, should be in their opponents home ground or suitable venue. I say suitable venue because not all grounds are deemed to be suitable for the championship.
