I know, but fair play it was hilarious.

I think the improvement can be factored with Colm Cavanagh regaining full fitness similar to last year. I was surprised how open Tyrone were against Donegal and think you can link it to not having an effective sweeper system in place. Maybe the sides shall meet again which will be a close affair. However going back to the tried and tested may have bore fruition in getting through the qualifiers but won't beat Dublin.

I expected a Tyrone win. I didnt expect it to be so emphatic. Gator (Monaghan) - Posts: 238 - 08/07/2019 10:14:05 2207634 Link 0 |
agreed. some baffling decisions by Barry Cassidy. I thought a few Cavan players did their best to get sent off and somehow couldn't convince the ref to issue either black or red. How Moynagh and McVeety stayed on the pitch is amazing . Killian Clarke didn't seem to be interested in playing football since the Armagh replay and looked like he was looking for a way out of the fray yesterday too. Even then he wasn't contented to go off quietly but wanted to carry on with his shoving and pushing nonsense whilst heading towards the line after receiving his Black Card. I was actually embarrassed heading out of Clones . much more so than the Ulster final. I have never left a game early but was sorely tempted to on Saturday. There was something rotten about that Cavan performance which cannot be explained alone by the gulf in class between the two teams. There was something else going on which needs an explanation.

The one against Donegal was a definite trip. He stuck his leg out clearly. No idea how Harte tried to defend that one. Didn't do himself any favors there

Black card is the problem. For example you could hear it in the puzzled voice of McStay during the Meath Clare game when black cards could have been awarded in the first half but were not. Byanthon (Tyrone) - Posts: 1780 - 08/07/2019 14:18:25 2207871 Link 0 |
I cannot believe that referees, for no other reason aside from their hatred for Tyrone, are targeting Petey Harte with black cards. greatpoint (USA) - Posts: 426 - 08/07/2019 14:21:36 2207873 Link 0 |
All 3 weren't black cards and if you think they are you clearly need to have look in rule book

The one against Longford was a dreadful decision .

It is quite interesting reading many of the comments with posters complaining about the quality of games. Teams generally play to win and use the methods they think is best suited to them. All teams play this negative football when it suits them with back and side passing the Dub included). I am not a fan of that type of football, however I do not blame any team more than the next. It is always easier to see the negative aspects of play in the opposition than the team you are supporting-its called blinkers full on. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2340 - 09/07/2019 14:55:08 2208479 Link 5 |
I didn't see the Longford one so can't judge it. The problem with the other two is that he keeps tackling with his leg first, it seems to be a bad habit he has. The refs are clearly interpretating that as a foot trip. So really he needs to sort out his tackle technique.

I didn't see that particular one but the others were more clumsy than cynical, indeed the one against Cavan was barely a foul. Surely that black card will be rescinded. You get some players who just aren't great at tackling but nowadays everyone is expected to put in big hits and get their tackles in. There was one clear black card on Sunday when a Clare player hauled down a Meath player and the ref gave yellow.

That's it in a nutshell. A foot trip is deemed a black card offence or am I missing something? It's very hard to interpret what is intentional or not especially when making a split second decision for the referee. Mickey Harte instead of venting his anger at the decisions should have a word with Peter Harte and ask him what the hell he was at making stupid tackles in the first case particular v Longford and Cavan when the games were long over.

You are correct and how does a Ref know when their is intent, when in fact it is clumsy, or indeed something what looks like a trip can be accidental contact. The Refs do not appear to know what is, or is not a foul when it comes to the tackle either as many times you see a player being surrounded by a number of players with their hands on his back, or around the neck with the Ref giving a free against the player who is clearly being fouled. Now the rules are such that it is impossible for Ref to see everything.

That was happening all game on Saturday in particular - if a player made a 1 on 1 tackle, Barry Cassidy couldn't penalise him quick enough. But if the tackler was fouling (pushing, pulling, etc) a player and his team-mate was standing there with his hands raised, the ball-carrier was penalised for over-carrying. It was a tho anything went so long as there was more than one man tackling. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4979 - 09/07/2019 16:41:09 2208534 Link 1 |
