Different ball game in the Pairc on Sunday. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 24/06/2019 17:40:12 2200095 Link 0 |
If Tipp get a good start in the Gaelic grounds they could stay ahead. They are that type of team. Limerick have to perform at home which brings it's own pressure. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 24/06/2019 18:06:06 2200109 Link 0 |
I'd say Limerick by a point or two. Should be a classic. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2119 - 24/06/2019 18:16:11 2200123 Link 0 |
Limerick only played Tipp once in a Munster Final in Limerick at least since the 1920s and certainly never lost a Munster Final to Tipp as LIT Gaelic Grounds as it was only opened in 1928. They previously played their Home Games in the Market Fields. In fact Tipp and Limerick played Munster Finals in Thurles in 1935, '36, '45 and '73, while only the '96 one was played in Limerick. The finals of '37, 49,71, 96' replay and 2001 were all played at neutral venues.

Yeah it's mad hurling in the Markets Fields back in the day hard to believe it's hosted GAA Soccer Greyhound racing and athletics. I have some Limerick family living about 1 minute walk from there. Fuscos chips are the best in town!!!! Think we played in thurles 4 times in Munster final v Limerick and 3 in Limerick Kilmallock hosting the first in 1890s I believe. Hoping for good weather and a good game of hurling. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 24/06/2019 19:21:22 2200173 Link 0 |

Funny fact Limerick have never beaten Tipp in a Munster final when game played in Limerick. Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2459 - 24/06/2019 20:04:59 2200215 Link 0 |

Rugby union too as it was used by Garryowen after GAA vacated. Great to see the soccer back there as it would be a shame to lose such a spot

I was born in 73 and only ever saw one Munster final between Tipp and Limerick in Gaelic Grounds in 96 and that was a draw...so don't get too caught up about previous fixtures. The long and short of it is the team that will be remembered in December is the team who wins the AI....if you win a provincial title and lose an AI against the same opposition will you be remembered? The question is will both teams be going 100 PC and not thinking about what could be down the road in August?that's just the reality of this back door system. It would be great to have no backdoor after the provincial setup but it would never work as you'd be straight into an AI final with no semis! I suppose at this stage after all dead rubbers aside, the attitude has to be to win all matches and ask questions after? TippRed (Tipperary) - Posts: 42 - 24/06/2019 22:48:34 2200357 Link 0 |
Home advantage may just swing it for Limerick although Cork have already turned them over in GP so mightn't be the fortress people think. Bonner a big loss for Tipp. If Tipp win this, especially as convincingly as their previous matches so far, they're definitely the real deal. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1246 - 25/06/2019 00:35:49 2200389 Link 0 |
I did. The last Munster final between Tipp and Limerick, to be played in Limerick, was a replay in 1996. The only other final was in 1922 (again a replay). So your so called "funny fact" is meaningless.

Gotta be Tipp for me. Particularly if they get ahead i think they'll stay ahead. Tipp by 3 Buachaillbui (Clare) - Posts: 118 - 25/06/2019 09:21:39 2200433 Link 0 |
Well Flanagan is a least as a big a loss for Limerick.

Oldtourman, your comments normally make a lot of sense but this one is off the wall. Flanagan was brilliant last year but has struggled to make an impact this year and Limerick are well used to playing without him at this stage. No doubt the potential is still there and he might well have a big say later in the year but as of now his loss wouldn't be nearly as critical as Bonner's, whose form has been simply sensational in the three and a half championship games he's played. Tipp's forward line will surely struggle without him. How he hasn't got even one man of the match award is a mystery.

Have to fancy Tipp I think. I was really disappointed in Limerick the last day. I thought Tipp won pulling up. I don't buy this talk that Limerick weren't trying. Dowling, O Donovan, Flanagan, Dan Morrissey and Peter Casey really under-performed the last day and look completely out of form. All of them should have been going at full tilt to hold on to a place on the team and they were all very poor. I don't think that is something that can be swtiched back on automatically. Have to agree. Flanagan was sensational for us last year, but fairly ineffective so far in 2019. He's a strong physical player that we need in the full forward line cos I don't think they've fired yet.. His touch has looked poor at times but if he starts on Sunday hopefully he'll be on fire. Can't underestimate Mahers loss to Tipp. He's been quietly brilliant every game. skillet (Limerick) - Posts: 1062 - 25/06/2019 11:18:27 2200510 Link 0 |
