Ofally Football Team Win Again

(Oldest Posts First)

A lot of negativity surrounding this county lately but I feel the footballers are on the up. They had a golden goal chance against Meath which they somehow missed and would have put them 5 points up with 10 to play. I was impressed with what was a very organised outfit.

Since then they've beaten London by 10 points and today Sligo by 11. If they could draw Laois, Westmeath or Clare they have a great chance of reaching the play off for the super 8's. Likely opponents Meath, Galway, Cavan and Cork. Could be one to watch.

John Maughan's sides will never lack fitness for organization.

I posted during the league campaign that we were gearing and training towards the championship which explained our legginess and poor results.

We will fear noone in tomorrow's draw. By that I mean, we are on an equal footing with most of the teams in the pot. The teams who would be perceived to be ahead of us are division 1 and 2 so therefore we will have them at oconnor park which is quickly becoming a fortress and will even the odds in our favour. I personally feel like this team have super 8 credentials and they are on the cusp of proving it. Im not saying we would get out of the group but it would be massive experience for this group. A win next weekend will be huge as there is very little quality coming out of the losing provincial finalists, I personally would love another cut off meath.

Roll on next week and long may the summer continue.

Nice to get a couple of wins for a change. The u20's had a good win on Saturday, so a good weekend all round.
Will be listening to tomorrow morning's draw.

Looking forward to the draw tomorrow. Best result is you avoiding Armagh, Kildare, Tyrone and Mayo odds stacked against avoiding them all but you never know.

Mayo is the only one i absolutely want to avoid at this stage. We'd have home advantage but a bridge too far I feel at our stage of development.

Hard luck to meath today, never got going by the sounds of things, I would love another crack at ye in rd 4.

No 'easy draws' from now on.

Here's my preference (from easiest draw to most difficult draw).

Clare
Westmeath
Laois
Tyrone
Kildare
Armagh
Mayo

We never have a massive amount of luck in these draws so I'll guess we get Mayo.

If I was ye id prefer any team except Tyrone and Armagh, teams who will pack the defence.
Mayo will let ye play and any team that runs at them will get joy.

Ye got London and Sligo so far in the draws, I would say that was a decent bit of luck?

We all need a bit of luck on occasions.

Its actually embarrassing that we are celebrating wins against London and Sligo (both currently average D4 standard teams). Also both of these games were played at home in Tullamore. And looking at how easily Dublin mopped the floor with Meath yesterday, running them close cannot hardly be too big of a moral victory.

Any one of the beaten provincial finalists will throw us a hammering, full stop.

I hate to be so negative but without a complete reshuffle and long term plan implemented in Offaly we will be restricted to "successes" such as those mentioned above, which is sad really.

A trip to Portlaoise is definitely winnable for Offaly. Both sides will be feeling confident after their victories at the weekend. Should be an entertaining tussle!

Good draw for Laois, Offaly, Westmeath and Clare. Clare and Offaly both teams that impressed me this year. The fitness let both of you down but a lot of time has passed so that side of things will have improved.

The two teams from this pack of four that go through will have a great chance. Meath being the easiest option but why should you fear Cavan, Cork or Galway. All 4 provincial final losers will be vulnerable.

Offaly vs Laois is a local Derby and should be a tasty affair. Best of luck lads.
