Mix Up Provincial Championship 2020

(Oldest Posts First)

if this system was in place there might not be one sided matches based on leaque format how teams finished . kerry and dublin would be in the same group every year .
the gaa have to do something major for the championship kerry think they own the munster championship that is not fair in my book. the gaa have to go for a major overhaul on this . i have ideas and i could put it do the gaa on their very tired champioship the only fair provincence is ulster .

The GAA won't scrap provincial championships will not be scrapped or mixed up. You seem to want teams of a similar level competing against eachother. I think that the only way to achieve this is to implement a tiered championship. Seperating teams by skill within a single tier won't solve any of the problems faced by the weaker counties. The hammerings will still be handed out at some point. I don't think a tiered championship for football will suffer from lack of interest if it is done right. Unfortunately, Horan wants to rehash the Tommy Murphy Cup or implement a seperate championship for Division 3 and 4 counties which fail to reach their provincial final. He hasn't learnt from the mistakes of the past. The GAA will choose one of these formats and we will all be back here in 5 or 6 years discussing the failure of the tiered championship.

Onto Munster. Cork put in a good performance today. I hope that they can sustain this momentum and challenge Kerry next year. The other good game this year was Limerick vs Tipperary. The same Limerick team was hammered by Cork. The Munster championship was a mixed bag. Connacht was pointless for Leitrim, London, and Sligo but Emlyn Mulligan already told us that would be the case.

Bit depressed today having being put out by tyrone last night, but plus side is, it was our b side (5 first teamer missing) so im telling myself invaluable experience got by young lads and panel members this season and roll on 2020!!

Ur completely right in what u say about tommy murphy (god be good to him) cup. As a supporter thats team will be thrown into a competition of this ilk, i wouldnt have much interest in watching, if its treated like it was the last time, or anything like the joe mcdonagh cup in hurling. Coverage is zero.

Ive said before on other threads, theres a module in place, within club competitions. Its senior, intermediate and junior championships. If it were branded like these, respected, covered and promoted properly, with respect and make them prestigious to win, then yeah, maybe it could work.

Any club player at intermediate or junior level would give their right arm to win their perspective championship within their county. Thats because, cbs (i know they get flak, but they do this right) make the competitions within their own counties, prestigious to win.

Obviously provincial die hards will have to be heard also, so come to a compromise, and find some way of integrating the competitions. Have an all ireland weekend, where ur junior and intermediate all ireland finals are played on the sat and ur senior on the sunday!!??..

Championship does need an overhaul. But if u completely dismiss the secondary competitions, like they do with joe mcdonagh cup etc forget about it!!..

The Joe McDonagh Cup final will be on at the same as the Munster final. It will be streamed on TG4's YouTube channel and GAA Now. It ahould be held on Saturday afternoon in Croke Park. RTÉ could air it instead of Home and Away and American drama series about witches.

The Intermediate and Junior finals could be held on a Saturday. The Senior final could held on a Sunday. Spread the games out of the weekend.

At least the Joe McDonagh finalists get a shot at Liam's mcCarthy.
Tommy Murphy Reloaded won't even have that.

my plan would include a place in the super 8 the following year . that is if 2nd tiered final is on the same day as the all ireland final .
