RTE V Sky Potential Clash!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Sky sports have the pick of the next rd of qualifiers. The 2 plum ties, Monaghan V Armagh & Down v Mayo, have both been scheduled for a 7pm throw-in, to clash with the Munster football final.

RTE are showing the Munster final, & according to the Examiner, Sky can pick either of the above ties & show them at the same time!

Surely, this is madness. If Sky do pick one of them, are they not entitled to bring the throw-in forward?

The only reasoning I can think of, is that Sky maybe indicated they would show one of the other qualifiers, which too would be a strange choice.

Awful stuff. Football is being treated extremely unfairly this year.

Common sense would have the Munster sfc final at 5 on rte followed by a qualifier at 7 on sky or vice versa.

Instead we will get to see only the Munster and connacht sfc finals and more than likely very limited highlights of the qualifiers on Sunday night.

Problem is that they they changed both hurling and football formats but kept the same amount of games in tv rights, I think it's time they sell an extra package to show more games

Seems to me the RTE are all focused on hurling, looks like the same teams playing each other week in week out, I know it's supposed to be this great game but it bores me to tears. I can not understand the structure of the hurling championship, seems to be and endless merry go round.

Over the course of the year there are more football games on TV than Hurling. With the current schedule the top 8 teams are playing each other in the hurling at this time of the year while the TV schedule is football heavy during the later stages of qualifiers/ Super 8's. Mid June to Late July is nearly all Football, Please wait to be bored. The TV ratings for Hurling games are currently higher than football. Early congratulations to Kerry winning the Munster football championship, Dublin winning the Leinster football championship and Dublin winning the All Ireland 2019.

They were scrapped as they were not competitive. The teams play in Joe McDonagh, Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher cups all of which are competitive. If they still existed and Galway were playing against leitrim we would not be calling for this game to be televised.

Ah come on. Top 3 in Munster and Leinster progress to the All Ireland series, top 2 to the provincial final. That's 3 out of 5 in each case.

What part of that is particularly challenging?

Can you blame them? The 5 in a row ceremony is all seems a bit too much like going through the motions before the inevitable happens. Attendances are down and atmospheres have dropped off.

Hurling last year was wide open and any one of 6 or 7 counties had a real shot at winning an AI. This saw a rise in attendances and competitive matches. You may not like hurling but it's not too hard to figure why it's getting the coverage it is.

Seems like for the foreseeable future that as long as we stick with these meaningless provincial championships especially in Leinster and Munster that the football championship will only get serious towards the end of June/ early July.

Finishing with the All Ireland in early September, so a bit over 2 months of serious action for the whole year. Surely this can be planned much better as the players give up enough time to have 9/10 months of the year wasted. Of course its great that they have more time to go back to their clubs but the intercounty season needs change.

Derry vs Laois wouldn't be a bad call either at a 5 o'clock.

Woulsnt be a bad call. If the Munster sfc final stays at 7 then either of the 5pm throw ins would be worth a watch and should be close/interesting.

Maybe theres a concern that longford or laois game will venture into extra time this eating into Kerry v cork time?

I'm all for a 7pm start for the Munster final as they are neighbours by the GAA need to sort out proper times for throw in for games involving teams who have to travel long distances for example Down v Mayo in Newry is on a Saturday at 7pm, by the time Mayo supporters get home it would be 2am Sunday morning that is without extra time, a 5pm start or even 3pm Sunday would be a better time, what time was the Derry Wexford game at last week, a bit of common sense is all GAA supporters want
