just following results there and see Wexford were comprehensively beaten by Derry this evening...imagine its 14 years since Mattie Forde and a very decent Wexford team ran Dublin reasonably close, I think they reached Leinster final since...now they are Div 4 side...little or no impact in Leinster...strange how they were competing well a decade or so ago and now are gone back to where they were for years...pity....

They gave us a fright more recently then that in the Leinster Final in 2011.
Can't blame them. As a meath supporter I'm very jealous they have a competitive hurling team to focus on. They have a chance to win leinster silverware. They have zero chance of winning leinster in football no matter how hard they try. There's an elephant in the room and it's only getting bigger.
I've some fond memories of the footballers. Their epic comeback against meath in 2008 will never be forgotten. I think they Hammered us in 2006 in Croker too. Dublin Hammered them in the 2008 final but they had a famous win over Armagh in the quarter final when mattie Forde retired francie bellew. They put up a good display against Tyrone in the semi who went on to beat kerry.
2010 they lost to Dublin in extra time and they really should have beaten them. I think meath drew after extra time against laois on the same day. They'll be kicking themselves as they could have won leinster that year.
In 2011 in the final Dublin never got out of first gear and the wexford keeper gifted a comeback to Dublin. It must be devastating for the players because that was probably the last chance the county will ever get to win a leinster title in football. The same goes for louth in 2010. Their last ever chance. As a meath support I'm blessed I seen it because 2001 was a long time ago and realistically it could be another 30+ years before we have a chance. That's assuming the leinster championship lasts that long.

Ah I dont know- Meath and Kildare will come again. Probably the only counties with a realistic chance of winning a Leinster SFC. Barring 1 of the rest of us having a golden generation of footballers. Historically in Football we get a good team every 40 or 50 years. Obviously the 4 in a row AISFC team was our best ever but it was the 40s/50s before we had another really good football team then the noughties. We won a Leinster U21 football title only a few years ago but some of the players on that team play for the hurlers now.
disappointing to see us so low. the county team is a product of the clubs though and i always maintained that if the work isnt good enough there that the county team will suffer. but playing devils advocate a bit,maybe that was a once in a generation team? i also concur with the poster above,what is the point of promoting the game in wexford or louth if a hammering by dublin is just the inevitable result?
